Waiting for results

Hi, 2 months ago or so everything suddenly kicked off, blood test, ultrasound, ct scan and hysteroscopy, then in for full abdominal hysterectomy, everything out bit of abdomen lining, oh and the appendix. 5 days in hospital and then back home feeling absolutely fine and pretty much normal again. Now I wait until next Wednesday for results. A huge cyst or mucinous or something tumour was removed, 45cm apparently and a womb 5 times larger than normal. I am feeling very slim! They have told me that it is likely to be a nasty one and to be prepared for possible chemo treatment, which I think I am mentally ready for. Its hard to think that there could be anything wrong still though. I was never in any pain other than uncomfortable bloating and a fat tummy in the way making things inconvenient, I am not in any pain now, nearly finished with tramadol and just on paracetamol. Surgery was a week ago. I was expecting to be in a lot of discomfort but so far I seem to be pretty much my normal old self. I am 48. So yes I am waiting for results. Obviously hoping for better news than it may be but can't imagine as I feel so well and they taken nasty stuff out that there could be anything else wrong with me. Breathing is good, I feel good, bowels are good, appetite good. Will let you know what happens next....

  • Hello Lou38

Thanks for sharing your story so far. It sounds as if it's been a real whirlwind the past few months but it's great to hear that you're recovering well from your surgery and it's fantastic to hear the positivity in your post too. I know that there are quite a few members here who will agree that having that positive mental attitude will stand you in good stead if you've more treatment ahead.
Hopefully at your appointment on Wednesday you'll have some answers so please do let us know how you get on when you're able to.

    Sending best wishes,

  • Got results last week and all clear. They had removed a large 45cm cyst from ovary which had pushed into abdomen cavity, along with complete hysterectomy and appendix and abdomen lining bit. The cyst was borderline stage 1 a cancer, so lowest possible. Consultant said last week they happy it's all clear, everything they took out was fine so no further treatment needed thank goodness. Don't even need hrt at the moment although I am having hot flushes but hope that maca root tablets will sort that out soon. I feel extremely fortunate and lucky and extremely happy. I was very lucky with my Dr and all the consultants and hospital staff that looked after me and everything was tested diagnosed and sorted in two months or so. Now I just have to recover from hysterectomy, which so far is no problem, no pain and I have good support. I would definately advise any one with symptoms they think is menopause or IBS to get their Dr to do a blood test. I dread to think what could of been my outcome. I had symptoms for maybe 6 years and thought it was all natural time of life. I was lucky.

  • Just wanted to say thank you for sharing your story. I'm currently going through exactly the same. Have my pre-op assessment today. I have a cyst measuring 36cm and will need a total hysterectomy. Eases my mind to read stories like yours. Told me there's a very small chance of cancer but you can't help but worry. Wishing you well with your recovery xx

  • Hi, glad to have helped a little. If you feel you want to know anything more that I went through in my experience or if I can help please ask. All the best to you.

  • Thank you so much. Got my op on Friday so many more questions may be to come!

  • Hi there again,

Just thought I send you an update. Had my surgery. All went well. My cyst weighed a massive 2.5 stone! Just got the all clear today from my biopsies. Thank you again for your support and I wish you well in these strange times.

    Xxx

  • That's such great news, really pleased for you. Mine weighed 2.5 stone too! I was 16 stone when I went in, 5 days later I weighed 13.5 stone. Mind you I barely ate whilst in hospital. I guess the rest of what they take out weighs a bit too though. Unfortunately I have put weight on, partly I guess from 4 months of 'resting' and also as now in menopause hormones are screwed up and storing fat. Beware the hot flushes now, I wish you well and keep safe. If you want to ask anything feel free.

  • What a coincidence! Haven't braved the scales yet esp with the social distancing thing I'm bound to put some on. No sign of the dreaded menopause yet. Putting me on hrt in a month. Feeling better mentally now than I ever did when I had all my 'bits'! Take care. V x
