Testicular C

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post a query like this - but here goesMy 22y/o son was diagnosed with very probable Testicular Cancer (TC) last week. He has already had an orchidectomy to remove the teste and has had a CT scan yesterday.
I believe we are now waiting for a consultants meeting (MDT?)to decide on the next steps once they have the histology and scan results available.
The query mainly being on how to deal with the waiting. Suffice to say the treatment so far has been nothing short of extraordinarily brilliant, but dealing with the unknown if it has spread (such a horrid word) torments the mind.
Does anyone have any tips on how to help his mother and I help him and selfishly us to.
Quite a week!

  • Hello Hector and welcome to the forum.

I'm really sorry to hear that your Son has recently been given this news. It's good to know that his treatment to date has been so good and I hope that he is recovering well from his surgery.

I know that lots of our members here will understand just how difficult the waiting for tests and results can be. It's natural that your mind runs wild and considers the worst outcomes. It sounds as if you've all done so well to get to this point and hopefully now within a few more days the Consultant will have some answers available to you all.

I know this is very easily said but try to just take it one day at a time. Keep busy and  do the normal things that you would, as a family, enjoy doing together.

Try not to Google things. There is a lot of inaccurate and out of date information available on the internet. If you feel that you do need to look for information then we have some on our website here which will hopefully help.

I hope that you don't have to wait too much longer for the results from the MDT meeting. Keep in touch Hector and let us know how things go.

    Best wishes,

  • My husband has been through exactly the same up until waiting on results it was very quick but seemed to drag heels with results after ft scan took 4 wks then was told he had to have a pet scan as spread to lymph node to see how big it was, we were told it was 10mm the borderline - anything under is ok 10 or above is cancer he is now 3 wks away from finishing 9 wks of bep chemo which hasn't been too bad for him then we have to wait to see if it has shrunk if not will need op to remove lymph nodes. Hate the waiting game. Good luck and fingers crossed all ok.
