Hard lump on cervical lymph node on neck

Hi, I know there are a few similar posts to this but thought I'd post my own as some things may be a little different to other people's experiences.

About 3 weeks ago I noticed a hard lump on my neck, I've no idea how long its been there. It doesn't hurt, not tender, feels quite solid/hard and doesn't really move. Sort of a kidney bean shape and size I guess. From checking it appears to be the cervical lymph node which is near the back of my neck.

I had a doctor's appointment a few days later anyway because of some very itchy skin on the back on my scalp/neck and groin area which has been bothering me a couple of months now, so thought I'd also mention it then. I thought he'd just say oh it's nothing, however he booked me back in for 30th October and if it's still there he'll refer me for ultrasound on it. I was a bit worried as was hoping it was nothing. Of course I'm now reading all I can to learn more, trying to not worry at the same time (I've a 4 and 1 year old!). I've not experienced night sweats, as for fatigue, well I'm always tired but put it down to having 2 little ones to look after (and a single mum). I have noticed I've been more breathless going up the stairs etc though.

I do wonder if the itchy skin could be related. I've been mostly well, only thing to note is my throat hasn't felt right for a few weeks, feels like a constant lump there that doesn't go when I swallow, although doesn't appear to be inflamed or anything. I've been quite underweight for a while (7st 3) but don't think I've lost any more recently.

Just posting on the off chance someone has/is going through something similar! If the lump is still there on 30th and I do go for ultrasound, will try and remember to post what happened.

Thanks for reading!

  • Hi, I was just wondering what came of your symptoms? I have the same symptoms. Hard lump on the back of my neck that doesn't move, I have a neck ache/stiffness, and a full ache pain that goes into my ear. I also feel something isn't quite right with my throat, again like you like I have a lump in my throat. I've always had swollen tonsils and scarring due persistent tonsillitis as a child. I've had the lump for around 2 months now but didn't think anything of it until I mentioned it to my mum who freaked me out. I've spoken with a GP but over the phone due to COVID and awaiting urgent face to face appointment this week.

Any news or information anyone has would be greatly received.
    thanks x

  • Hi potts.

Am going through exactly the same as you but I I have nausea too. I have an MRI Sunday (10th jan2021) I feel so anxious about it.

I also have headaches and the pain around the ears.

    Have you heard any more?

  • Hi Kelly,

I am still fighting with my doctor for any test apart from repeating blood tests all the time. It sounds good that you have an MRI! At least you can get some answers! I hope you're okay, and let me know how you get on! I have had repeated bloods this week and waiting to see what they show before my GP said we could "move to the next stage". Sorry I can't be anymore help,

    x

  • Thank you for replying.

Ah that must be so frustrating!!!!!  I have have like this since September so been a longish road.

I will do. I'll.keep you dated.

I have currently just had a funny turn..shapre pain behind my ears and pins and needles . :(

  • Hi reading this has made me realise I need to go to the doctors again. I went a year ago with a pea lump under my armpit. It was scanned and they said it was ok but it's grown and now I have more lumps under both armpits, in my neck and groin. I keep brushing it aside as I have no symptoms at all other than the lumps but I am starting to prod them more and google and I think for my own piece of mind I need to go back!

  • Hey,

    have you got any updates?

  • Hello Jess,

I just wanted to see if you had any further advancements on this?

I am in the exact same situation that you were, and just waitng for my second scan!

is the lump still there for you? Big thank you xx

  • Hi. I'm currently going through this with my 2 year old daughter. I spotted a lump beind her ear in June, had it checked by the GP (he put in his notes soft and movable which I was unaware of). He told me it must be from an infection even a bit of dry skin can swell a lymph node, then told me it should go within 2 weeks.

Fast forward to September (we were away in August and she got a cold in July so I didn't want them blaming the cold and ignoring my concerns) the lump was still there. Spoke to a different doctor this time who send us for bloods at our local hospital.

3 weeks later I get the report from the hospital. Some of her markers were slightly raised but she did have a cold and they weren't worried due it it being a "soft lump" and it can be there for years as children are prone to infections amd virus's. I asked if she would check it out because its most definitely not a soft lump and it's like a stone.

Went it to see her today (this is only the second time someone has actually looked at the lump) she agreed with me and said it is hard, nonmoveable and bigger than she expected. We're now waiting on an appointment for a scan of the lump. Has anyone had any outcomes as to what their lump was? Google is not my friend atm.

    Thanks a very worried mummy

  • Hi Emma

I am so sorry you're going through this with your young daughter! I wish I could say Ive had any results yet but I am still waiting for my ultrasound appointment to come through. My lump is seemingly firmer than it was, I do have psorisis on my scalp and in my ear, so I am trying to stay optimistic and hope it is to do with that. Please do keep me updated with your developments and i'm sending all the love and support your way!
