Still awaiting colonoscopy biopsy results

I had a colonoscopy in August, and was told I would get the results of the biopsies in 2-3 weeks, either by a letter informing me they were clear, or with an appointment with the gastroenterologist if not. It’s November next week and I have been waiting over 8 weeks now. After 5 weeks had passed I rang my doctors, who told me to ring the hospital, and then I rang.the hospital  and was told it would take 5-6 weeks, not 2-3 and they didn’t know why I had been told that by the nurse who did the procedure, and I should be ringing my doctors anyway, not them! Starting to get really cross as well as worried now. I watched cancer claim my lovely father a few years back, and I just want closure or action now. I know too well what delays do. Any advice please? Thank you.

  • Hi HayleyG,

Sorry to hear you have been waiting so long - I can imagine this is difficult and frustrating as you say.

As far as I'm aware it is usually more normal to call the hospital to check for results. Now that it has been 8 weeks - more than the 5-6 weeks they said when you called - it would be worth calling to check again. Explain how long you've been waiting and if they're still not in then ask how long you should be expecting to wait, as you should have had the results by now.

I hope it's not too much longer to wait for you.

    Wishing you all the best,
