Hi,
I'm here because I'm worried about my 18 year old son. Please bear with me as I write my story...
My son took himself to the doctors at the beginning of this month as he said he was unusually and especially fatigued - falling asleep in lessons at school etc. I wasn't at all concerned and put it down to 'teenage lifestyle' - late nights, general laziness etc, but he had decided he was either anaemic or had sleep apnea!!
GP sent him for a blood test and also checked his throat where she noticed one tonsil was considerably larger than the other (my son had glandular fever in Feb this year). Blood tests revealed low B12, for which he was given a folic acid prescription and high 'indicators of allergy' - he has no allergies.
He then received a letter through the post from the hospital asking him to book an ENT appointment online which he did (for Jan 2020 - first available) and which we'd both assumed was to look further into possible sleep apnea. He then received another letter in the same week, this time from the GP, saying she had spoken with the hospital and on their advice had made an urgent referral to the Rapid Access Head and Neck clinic and also sent a request for an abdominal ultrasound scan.
He now has both appointments coming up this week. Scan on Tuesday, consultant appointment on Wednesday. I'm going to both appointments with him.
He seems oblivious as to why these tests/appointments have been made for him. I'm struggling as I didn't attend the original GP appointment with him, but based on 'symptoms' I have put 2 & 2 together and think they are looking to rule out lymphoma. He has no other symptoms other than fatigue and one swollen tonsil, could this be lymphoma??!
I may have entirely the wrong end of the stick and that may not be what they're thinking at all, but I'm not sure why else they would have rushed these appointments.
I just wanted to get it off my chest really and I suppose to see if anyone here has had a similar experience?
Thanks for taking the time to read.
