Does a letter from an oncologist mean I have cancer?

I have received a letter from an oncologist referring me to a specialist hospital, as I have some time of rare lump that is undiagnosed after ultrasound and MRI, do the hospital know more than they are letting on? I haven’t been told anything about what this lump may be  but would this be because they are expecting it is cancer but can’t say anything until they know for sure? Also the lump has been growing for two years and I do have lymph nodes up on my neck which I haven’t told the hospital about if I had had cancer for 2 years would I be feeling ill by now?

  • Hi s1606 and welcome to the forum.

I don't think anyone here can say for sure what this means but it's very easy for our minds to run away from us and overthink things when waiting.

You're more than welcome to talk things through with our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040 (phone lines open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m) but if you can, try to distract yourself and take your mind off this for a little bit as it will help you whilst waiting for your appointment.

    Kind regards,
