Lump in salivary gland

Hi folks, I was wondering if anyone had been through similar?

A couple of years ago I saw an ENT doctor who told me I had a swollen salivary gland. No tests were carried out at this point and I carried on as normal as it didn't bother me. Since then it has grown quite a bit. It's painless and doesn't bother me. I went to my GP to get it checked again a couple of weeks ago who referred me to the neck lump clinic. I attended a week ago and had an ultrasound that confirmed I was a lump in my submandibular gland. A biopsy was performed. The doctor also ordered an urgent MRI with gadolinium. I don't have any results back yet but I was wondering if anyone had experienced similar and what was the outcome? Csn anything sinister be picked up by ultrasound?

  • Ultrasound itself wont give a definitive answer but it does show size and shape of lump and it may show blood flow. It's usual to have a biopsy and it can take weeks to get the results back, something to do with needing to culture the cells.

My husband sees his consultant tomorrow about his neck lump, however we've been told the path report was inconclusive so we have no idea what comes next.
