Severe anxiety over lump in the back of the knee, sarcoma?

Hi, i have often read things on here but never joined in. Im really really scared. Back in march i hurt my knee, previous never ever ill, very fit,i hurt it by overdoing it on exercise bikes and squats..i rested it got better, then flared.my gp said inflamation and to do physio. Fast forward to 6 weeks ago. I was applying some ibugel and decided to rub it into the back of my knee as it was sore there and achy in my calf like a sciatic pain,i found a lump, its sore and i can move it left to right, but its deep and not visable to the eye.i saw my gp the next day who insited it was a bakers cyst and not cancer but i pushed for an ultrasound. I had the ultrasound 2 weeks ago. He found it hard to find as its under the muscle, and he said its definatly isnt a bakers cyst and needs further investigation. I have an mri with contrast booked for 4 weeks today. Im in bits,i know no one here can say its not cancer but im terrified.im tempted to try and get a loan to have the mri done privately so i dont have to wait. I have had prob every blood test and blood films the past 4 weeks due to stomach issues. All have come back completly normal. I just cant sleep,or cope with this fear.thanks for reading

  • Hello Pugdog1,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. A 4 weeks wait can feel like a lifetime and I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting for these important tests and results.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. Do mention to your GP that this anxiety is affecting your quality of life and preventing you from sleeping and that this fear is paralysing you. Your GP I am sure will be able to point you in the right direction and give you some tips to manage this anxiety.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi,just wanted to update. I had a knee mri with contrast on fri,and had the results today. They still dont know what this mass is,all they know is that it has grown and I'm now under urgent referral for an ultrasound biopsy. I dont know how to cope with the worry. How can they not even have an idea of what it is,I'm guessing the biopsy is to rule out cancer?.my only new symptoms are daily back pain waking me from sleep in the left rib side and headaches.im trying to not Google the worse case but I am scared

  • Hi,

I am new to this site.

I have had  recurrence of my prostate cancer, still local, only just (3b). Now I have a swelling behind the knee, similar to those described above. Painful: I have trouble standing up from a low position. A bit of research says it's "Baker's cyst". But In some cases it can be cancer. I cannot feel a lump, but I am pretty worried.

The above reports are over a year old. But any updates or other adfvice would be helpful.

  • Hi pug dog, I just wanted an update. How are you doing now and did you ever find out what issue you had?
