Lump under arm

Hi,

I am 39 and noticed some swelling under one of my arms 3 + months ago. Went to doctor at beginning of August and she said she didn't think it was anything to worry about but to make appointment with another doctor for second opinion. I was happy she wasn't concerned so didn't get around to it until last week. This doc couldn't feel what I do, felt one part with what she described as grizzle but referred me to breast clinic anyway to be safe she said and appointment came for 23rd.

It was only later I realised that every time I check, my arm is in a fairly low position, I tried to find it with arm raised and can't, probably why she couldn't feel what I described. It is hard and doesn't move, deep in armpit and further in than the bit she found. I was wondering if anyone else has had this? Where it depended on position of arm if they could feel lump and if it turned out to be something?

I am a single mum of a toddler and while I know it's going to be nothing I can't help worrying if it is. I don't even know how I would manage treatments, operations and looking after her. I know I am getting so far ahead of myself when it's most likely nothing but hoping someone with similar lump be able to share their experience

Thanks so much, I have spent the last few days reading posts on here and can't get over how strong and positive so many of you are

  • Welcome to the forum Tess.

I'm really glad the posts you've come across so far have helped you and I have no doubt that some of our members will be along soon to offer their support whilst you wait for your appointment and share their experiences with you if they have/had similar.

It's natural for our minds to run away from us when we find ourselves in worrying situtions but if you can try to stay in the here and now and take things a day at a time.

    All the best,

  • Hi Steph,

Thanks for the reply, I am trying not to think about it too much but do keep finding myself checking the lump and swelling or looking online.

I know the odds are that it will be nothing serious but can't get it out if my head that it might be serious and have no idea what I will do.

It's just me and my daughter, have very little support and something happening to me has been my worst nightmare since having her.

This site does help a lot though, thanks
