Thyroid nodule/cancer?

Hi,

Last Friday (27th September) I had an ultrasound on my Thyroid after suffering from a swelling and restriction since June this year, it was put under a general appointment however with the findings the Dr has told me that it should have been urgent. I got the call from my Dr on the Monday (30th) asking me to go in to discuss the results, the same day I received my biopsy appointment (Tuesday 8th October) through the post. I sat with the Dr whilst he made my referral to see a consultant, he told me it would be an urgent appointment, they called yesterday and I’m seeing the consultant on Monday (7th October). From the ultrasound results it appears to be u5 malignant, from it shape and size and it doesn’t appear to be filled with fluid.

Everything is happening so quickly I’m 34 with 2 beautiful girls and a husband, obviously my girls no nothing of this find yet but my husband is equally as worried as me. I’m struggling at sleep at night and when I do I wake up with the sweats or panicking (unfortunately I suffer from extreme panic attacks!)

Has anyone else on here had a similar issue, would be good to chat to someone who fully understands how I feel right now, I have an amazing support network but nobody knows what to say right now. I’m trying to remain positive as I know the biopsy will give the definitive answer.

  • hi , I’ve never replied to anything on line before but I felt I should reply . I have had a lump in my neck for the past 20 odd years , it’s a multi modular goitre . I’ve had all the tests ( scans and biopsy’s) and mine isn’t cancerous, have they told you yours definitely is ? Often they frighten you by how quickly they get you seen but it’s often just precautionary.

If that is the diagnosis you get I’m sure it’s very treatable . My aunts sister was diagnosed with thyroid cancer about a year ago and she has had her thyroid removed and is completely fine now , she didn’t have to have any other treatment other than to have it removed . Please try not to worry ( I know thats easy for me to say ) wait until they explain what they have found . Fingers crossed it’s just a goitre or cyst .

    Hope this was helpful

    Good luck
