Breast cancer picked up on ct

I went to a&e last week with bad chest pains and shortness of breath. I had blood tests which prompted me to be sent for a contrast ct scan. They found bilateral pulmonary embolism. When the doctor told me about what they had seen she asked me to come into a side room for an examination  It was at this point that she told me about a mass in my left breast that had also shown on the scan. She told me they were very certain it is breast cancer. She examined me and said she would need to make a fast track referral to the breast clinic. When I left the room nearly every nurse I passed apologised for my diagnosis  one even gave me a hug and told me I had to fight this. All in all they more or less told me they knew what it was and I'm assuming they know these things when they see them on the scan but it has to be a specialist that confirms. I feel devastated and also like the staff at the hospital know more than they are letting on. I'm so scared

  • Hi

Sorry to hear about what has been happening  to you. But you’ve come to the right place for support. The positive thing is that whatever it is it’s been picked up and the breast clinic will be able to confirm what it is, whether it’s bc or something else.  Try not to worry about what the hospital staff know, just focus your energy on you.

Bc treatment has come a long way, I thought my world had fallen apart and Wouldn’t be here next year but I’ve been told it’s treatable and curable and I should have normal life expectancy. It’s just a bumpy road for a while.

so I would suggest taking someone with you to your appointment, and suggest staying away from google, it isn’t helpful and focusses on worst case scenarios.

There are loads of fantastic people on this site who will support you and help you through. Take care and sending big hugs.
