2 biopsys taken in 6 months after being told I have CIN1

I'm abit confused.... 6 months ago I was told after a smear test that I had abnormal cells to them have a biopsy taken to find out I had CIN1... 6 months later I go for a follow up smear test and the colposcopy surgeon then says he's going to take another biopsy... why would this be?

  • Hi Jess23

CIN 1 is often known as low grade changes. Usually these return back to normal by themselves and no treatment is needed. However you do need further screening tests or colposcopies to check the cells have improved which is presumably what your recent check up has been for. If these tests show the CIN 1 is not improving, you may be offered treatment.

We know that it can be a confusing and sometimes worrying time. If you'd like to chat to our nurses about any other questions or concerns you might have then you're most welcome to give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on  0808 800 4040.

  • Hi

I've just read your post .  And it's literally what's happening to me today.  Biopsy back and it's cin1.
    abnormal cells.

so I have to go back to the hospital??
will I have like what I had done before for the biopsy?  Is that called a screening ?
    Thanks

  • Is CIN1.  Genital herpes ??

  • Hello TBG

I can see from the posts that you've made that you have lots of questions about your biopsy results and so wanted to pop on to share some information that may help reassure you.

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted infection. CIN 1 means that during your recent colposcopy appointment the team found some cell changes in your cervix. Cell changes are not cancer however we know that many women feel anxious when they're given this news.

There's lots of information available on the Jo's Trust website that may reassure you, but if you still have questions or are worried, do give their helpline a call. Or alternatively, you can call our team fo nurses on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm).

    I hope this helps.
