Unexpected

I’m so pleased to have found a space to come and share my worries.

I am 43 and during an ultrasound scan with my gynaecologist to check the siting of my mirena he found a cyst.  The cyst has an 8mm hard mass inside of it.  He has noted it as an ovarian cyst but during the u/s he said he couldn’t see what it is attached to.

I had a ca125 blood test immediately and I have been referred for an MRI scan.  I have a few symptoms I’d noticed but hadn’t taken too much notice of such as constipation, feeling full quite quickly and dragging pain in my abdomen. These symptoms suddenly seem very significant.

i also have pain in my hip that I’m worried is connected.

I’m trying not to worry but I just can’t see how this has any other outcome.

I expect to see my gynaecologist again in a couple of weeks, it feels like a lifetime.

  • hi Siddy and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear that your consultant has discovered this cyst and has requested some additional tests.

It's natural that you're feeling worried at the moment but it is important to remember that there could be other causes for the symptoms that you've been experiencing.

We know that waiting for tests and results can be a really difficult time for people. Not knowing what lies ahead can lead to thinking of all sorts of outcomes. Sometimes it can help to talk things through which is one of the reasons we have a team of nurses here at Cancer Research UK that you can call to talk to. If you think it would help you to chat with them then they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that this next couple of weeks go quickly for you and that the tests give you answers to your questions. Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
