Lump on left side of neck

Hi, I'm 32 male, I found a lump on my the neck couple months ago it was a pea sized lump, but over the weeks it has got slightly bigger. I have been to see my gp. She not sure what it is if its a swollen lymph node or not. she referred me for a ultrasound which is on the 7th. But had no symptoms up to the point seeing my gp. But the past week I have ringing in my ear, headaches, cold nights sweats, pain in my left shoulder and my body itches all over. Plus I'm slightly worried too

My granny found a lump that was cancer but died couple years later, and couple weeks later after granny funeral my aunt found a lump that was cancer. But she is cancer free for 15 years now.

I have told close family members about the lump, but they don't know how scared i am though that history might be repeating itself.

  • Hi herbie

Sorry to hear how worried your feeling.

im in a similar situation myself, discovered lump on left side of neck and ringing in ear.

did you go back and let your gp know your other symptoms?

i was referred to ent and had my first appointment on Tuesday was quite nerve racking but must be done.

Ive been referred for an ultrasound on lump and have to have a biopsy at the back of tongue in 2 weeks.

the waiting is the worse and can cause a lot of stress and anxiety please try not to worry as that’s all’s I’ve done the last few weeks but I’ve come to realise there’s no point as this is not going to change the results.

hope all goes well for you

    best wishes x

  • Hello both. I'm in a similar situation to both of you. I discovered a lump a few weeks ago, which is currently two lumps and though I can't say for sure, they appear to be getting bigger. I've been to both ENT and Radiology for an ultrasound. The ENT consultant had a feel around and stuck a camera down my nose. He wasn't concerned about anything. The ultrasound consultant identified the lymph node he thought I was palpating and concluded it was a reactive lymph node and was too small (9 x 3mm) to FNA. Out of curiosity, is the ringing in the ear on the same or opposite side of the lymph node/s?
  • Hi there

well speaking for myself yes the ringing in my ear is on the same side.

    hope this helps

    good luck

  • Honestly, I've not really considered the tinnitus anything to think about until I read this thread.

But as it happens, mine's on the opposite side.

  • Hello Herbie

My husband is currently going though investigations of a lump on his neck, he's a lot older than you. Everyone he sees asks about night sweats so I'd let your gp know you are having those. My husband has had blood tests and a chest x-ray then a fine needle aspiration that seems to have been inconckusive. However the lump has since shrunk.

There are several things it could be apart from cancer - a reactive lymph nose is common as are blocked salivary ducts.

After the ultrasound the radiologist told my husband not to worry too much as it looked beneign, hopefully you'll hear something simillar.
