Waiting on cervical biopsy results

Hello,

I'm new to this chat and currently driving myself insane. I'm 34 and a mum of a 7 year old boy. I have always attended my smear tests and a year before having my son I had abnormal cells and a biopsy sent but no further treatment needed. Just more frequent check ups.

All of my smears since came back normal until my recent one in July this year.  I recieved a letter after missed phone calls from colposcopy saying an appointment had been made for me as CIN3 and severe dyskaryosis with moderate changes had been detected.

At my colposcopy appointment my consultant said it was unusual for such a high grade change in a short space of time. He took 2 biopsys and said he wanted to wait on results before performing any treatments. That was on 6th September.

I have been back and forward to my gp from the beginning of this year with constant pelvic, hip, leg ,lower back pain, constant period like cramps and feeling beyond exhausted. However it wasn't until after my biopsys that I learned this can all be symptoms of cervical cancer so I have been worried to say the least.

I rang the clinic today to ask if there was any update on my results. The receptionist said my results are back but the doctor is off this week! And they will send a letter with results. I'm just finding it very frustrating now knowing my results are there and I don't know what they say. Would the lab have sent my results to my GP also or does the consultant have to write his report 1st?

Sorry for such a long post x

  • Do you feel better now that they have done some sort of treatment? Fingers crossed this comes back as that of just the high grade.

my results I got today, but only because I rang!
hodpital was pretty vague so I called my doctor after who went through everything with me.

my aspiration biopsy came back all clear.
my 3 cervical cane back all low grade, but was positive for the HPV virus. They have referred me back to the doctors for a smear in a year! I guess they know what they are doing so just need to relax on that part now.

the cervix is cervical ectropion which was noted but as the clinic I went is just for cancer diagnosis they didn't say anything about that, just put it on my record!

This is why I went, as I've had enough of it. My doctor will now refer me to a gynaecologist which I hope they sort for once and for all!

I wish you a speedy recovery and hope the result comes back pretty quick for you x

  • Hi Lou,

I rang and long story short finally had it explained to me by my doctor!

at first I want relieved as the outcome for the bleeding still want addressed. It is now however!

my cervical aspiration came back clear, phew.

My 3 Cervical are all showing low grade and I'm testing positive for the HPV virus.

however I have been discharged back to yearly smears.

cervisl ectropion has been Dias gnoses but as not their section it was just noted on file.
I am so pleased I spoke to my doctor as this is the issue I want sorted. So she will now refer me to the gynaecologist and were go from there.

sorry to hear of your cancer, but you seem like your fighting it head on and a very strong lady!

also thank you very much for taking the time to message x

  • Thank you :) so glad to hear you finally got your results! I hope your gynecologist can give you more answers. I just feel tender today and relieved to a certain extent but I know I will still have these results now on my mind.

do still keep us updated on your next referral. Hopefully this is the last of the worry for me! Xx

  • Hi :) thank you so much for your reply and kind words. So sorry to hear of your diagnosis and journey. You have absolutely been through a lot. Glad to hear you are now doing well and I hope and pray you continue to do so!

it is such an emotional time waiting on results. My partner is amazing I've been looked after extremely well. And his emotions have been up and down also with the worry. He too feels more relieved after my treatment yesterday and hopes for good results. My sister has had treatments in the past also so she understands.

and as you say many treatments are available and very successful. It's just the period of not knowing results sends everyone's minds into overdrive. Xx

  • Hi all,

I wonder if I can get some advice. I had my first smear test a month ago; had my results of low grade and hpv I waited 3 weeks for the colposcopy appointment which I had done today. She said there was a slightly larger area with abnormalities and she needed to do a biopsy, but she done one with local so I was numb and something electrical? She said I had to wait for my results. It's my first smear I'm 24 and am sick with worry please can someone give me some advice. X

  • Hi. Sorry to hear you are worrying so much. It sounds like she did the lletz procedure on you which removes the effected area with an electrical loop then the tissue is sent for biopsy. Waiting on results is terrible it takes over your mind.

The good news at the minute is that hopefully all the abnormalities have been removed with the treatment and the biopsy results confirm the same. It will be 4 weeks on Friday from I had the lletz procedure for severe high grade and still have no results. Though I have never been told if I'm hpv positive or negative.  I forgot to ask them.

Try and take things easy and make sure you talk to family. Treatments are very successful and hopefully with your age everything has caught early.

  • Hi,

I couldn't wait any longer so this morning I decided to ring the clinic, the lady was lovely who I spoke to, she said she could give my results but couldn't give treatment plan over the phone, as doctor hasn't looked at the results yet.
She said it's showing moderate abnormalities CIN2 but because I'm 24 they need to decide what to do, and once the doctor has decided she is going to ring me.
I'm obviously so relived it's not cancer and that it can be removed.
just to wait to see what they are going to do now.
I hope you're results come back good, please let me know how everything goes.
wish you all the best x
