Waiting on colonoscopy

Hi this may be a long post.

I went to my gp in july with a queary of gallstones. I had an xray which showed small prolapse gp isn't concerned. However I handed in stool sample as I had a large amount of bright red blood in my stool twice, I handed the sample in when the blood has stooped. My sample came up high levels of blood. My full blood count came back as risen crp and white blood count and low iron levels. My gp is referring me colonoscopy however she said due to my age (27) she can't put it through as urgent. However I keep having loose stools which are a yellow colour (sorry tmi). I haven't had anymore blood.

I keep worrying I will wait so long on an appointment and if there is anything serious it could be getting worse.

She tried to make me feel better by saying it could just be ulcerative Colitis. But am really not sure as I had blood in my stool over a year ago on a single occasion and I do have a change in my bowel movement and had lower back pain for a few months now

Welcome to the forum and I'm sorry to hear about the health issues that you've been dealing with over the past year. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned about things at the moment and natural that you're worried about the length of time you may need to wait for further tests.

You might find it helpful to call our team of nurses to discuss your situation. I'm sure that they will be able to give you some advice and support. You can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long and that things improve soon.

    Best wishes,
