Lump found after smear

Hi, my first time posting, I went for my smear Monday, it hurt, its never hurt before, the nurse said there's a polop, I went to the doctors Thursday and she looked, she said there's a lump and referred me to a 2 week referral to the cancer clinic, iv had pain in the top of my left thigh, I feel nauseated every morning to the point of being sick, I have always got lower back pain and stomach ache, I miss periods which they originally thought it was the start of the menopause, I'm 45,the wait for the appointment is worse than finding out if its cervical cancer,Sarah x

  • Hi Sarah

Sorry you find yourself here, and yes, the waiting is awful. The not knowing is really hard to deal with-we all feel that so sympathise with you. Do you know what they will do at the appointment? Ultrasound or colposcopy? Whatever it is, you’ll feel better once you know and can get on with getting it sorted. It might be a polyp which can be removed as day case surgery, but if it is cervical cancer, the treatment plan is very effective. Please keep posting...lots of support available on here, and you can say how you really feel without fear of upsetting family. If I can help with anything, please ask away. xx

  • Hiya, thank you for the message, I really appreciate it, they didn't tell me anything as to what will happen next, the doctor gave me this letter that is saying about cancer and that the hospital will be in touch in 2 working days, it doesn't say about anything else, iv got to go for a blood test at the doctors on Tuesday, I hope my appointment comes soon, I'm glad iv found this site xx

  • Hi Sarah

Sometimes medical professionals are really poor at giving us the information we need, and letting us know what is going on. However you will be seen quickly which is a good thing. I hope it’s something simple but if not, you will find plenty help here. I was diagnosed with stage 2b cervical cancer a year ago...surgery wasn’t possible so I had chemotherapy and radiation. I’ve been free of disease for the last 6 months and due another check up in a week or so, after I return from my holiday in Bali. Like I said, treatment can be extremely effective. Fingers crossed it’s just a polyp though! xx
