Complex Ovarian Cyst

I have been suffering with symptoms that I thought were premenopausal related, irregular bleeding, pain in side, feeling full painful intercourse and urgency to wee. I had scan last week, which discovered a complex ovarian cyst approx 5 cm ca125 blood tests were 26 which is in normal range

I have family history of cancer, my mum had breast, her 3 sisters (my aunts) have been affected - 1)died of breast cancer @ 40, 2) Breast cancer -mastectomy 3) vulva cancer. My Aunt (2) lost her daughter (my 1st cousin) last year age 49 yrs due to NETS (Neuro Endocrine Tumours)

I am positive things will be ok, I have gynae hospital appointment next week, advice I’m looking for is on whether in view of my age 48, current scare and family history whether they would look favourably on me having a hysterectomy to reduce future risks?

TIA

  • Hi Kazaitch

Welcome to the forum and I'm sorry to hear about how your family has been affected by cancer.

I'm unsure what treatment the Gynaecologist will discuss with you at your appointment next week but I'm sure that if you explain your family history and concerns that they will be happy to explain why, or why not, that may be an appropraite option for you.

If you think it would be helpful to talk things through with one of our team of nurses before your appointment then you can call them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).

I hope all goes smoothly for you.

    Best wishes,
