Menopause post coital bleeding

Hello everyone

I am 52 and have been through the menopause. 8 months ago post coital bleeding started occuring. Went to docs and he referred me. Today I had my appointment with the hospital and she recommended a tvs scan and a general anesthetic hysteroscopy within 2 weeks anyone else in a similar position as I would to know more about what to expect. Thanks

  • Hello Tiddles24 and welcome to our forum

You absolutely did the right thing in going to the doctor's following post coital bleeding. It's good that the doctor is being thorough and carrying out these investigations but I can imagine it must be a stressful time for you as you are waiting to find out more. I hope you wil hear from others here who have been in a similar position before and that they will share their experience with you. We have some information on our website on the hysteroscopy which you can find here

I hope you get some answers soon and that it all goes well for you.

    Best wishes,

  • I am 52 also and was referred a couple of months ago. The nurses believed the bleeding to just be a polyp which the hospital would remove and biopsy, not really significant just a precaution.   They were going to do s GA hysteroscopy and biopsy this week but cancelled it.   I have however also had an ultrasound followed by MRI, they  found what they term incidental cysts, so the biopsy was cancelled I think to deal with them first.    Communication is awful, I only have receptionists to talk to, which is unusual as most people posting on here seem to get to see a specialist. The hospital doesn't seem too worried about the bleeding.    They  assess everyone in case .GA  is preferable for hysteroscopy  I was told if  you are post menopausal and not had children, so I didn't argue, grateful they didn't try without!

  • Hi thanks for your reply. Apologies for the delay in replying. I have seen a specialist and she has marked me urgent for an ultrasound and ga hysteroscopy. Had the ultrasound on Thursday in the morning and the pre op assessment in the afternoon. Am waiting now on an 'urgent' hysteroscopy. The ultrasound showed that the lining of my uterus is thicker than normal. Think they are planning to do a d&c and biopsy. How are you getting on? Take care Theresa

  • Thanks very much for your reply. Hopefully soon we will get some answers.

  • Finally seen someone. They now think after the MRI the lining is all OK and not a problem and the bleeding could be the cysts.  I know the bleeding was definitely the cervical polyp and not the cysts, because it came off and the bleeding stopped the other day.   I now know what one looks like - ughhh.

They want to remove the cysts and biopsy them, so have recommended full hysterectomy as my CA125 count is up,  hence I don't need the hysteroscopy now.  I didnt expect to get this done until I was a bit older.  Ironic as all I went for really was a smear test (which came back clear) and its led to this, well I won't need any more smear tests either ......
