Hi everyone,
a little backstory about me: I have been on this medical journey since 2016. That summer I had a colonoscopy due to stomach pain and a positive stool test for blood. I had a second colonoscopy in 2017 due to continuing stomach pain and nothing was found except for hemorrhoids. Fast forward towards the end of 2018 where I start having full on rectal bleeding. This was my first year in university and I had to fly back home to get an appointment. The new GI I had recommended a sigmoidoscopy where they found a polyp that was causing the bleeding. It was benign and they told me they really didn’t need to do anything else, but since I was still having stomach pain they did a ct scan, which came back normal.
My main concern is the polyp that they had found. I just feel uneasy that it was found less than two years after my last colonoscopy, which had come back completely clear other than the hemorrhoids. If I hadn’t had bleeding I probably wouldn’t have even done the sigmoidoscopy and they’d never have found it. I feel like I should go for a full colonoscopy again. I’m not sure though because I’ve had two but I’m just worried that there could be more polyps further up. The main issue is my GI said that they’re basically done with the tests because the ct scan came back clear and there’s nothing more they need to do.
Am I being unreasonable? Should I try to push for a colonoscopy? I know no one here is a doctor but I’m just looking for some advice from those who may have been there though something similar. I’m just scared that my GI will brush me off.
