Terrified of enlarged lymph nodes

Hi all.

I'd say my case is slightly different than those I've already read on here. In July of this year I ended up with mumps of all things! Lasted around a week and inflamed the left side of my face and nodes of course. Since then however I've had persistent issues with slight aches and pains in that area of my face, before discovering a lump underneath my jaw line and one at the back of my neck.

My 1st GP appointment I was sent away under the pretence that my nodes were still inflamed as a result of the mumps, they still persisted however in size and feeling (they do move but are fairly hard)

The 2nd appointment I had the usual checks blood pressure listened to my chest felt my stomach and then some blood tests which came back clear. This however has still not reassured me and I'm terrified right now, especially as a 23 year old.

I'm waiting on my 3rd gp appointment in around 2 weeks to request an ultrasound.

I'm an active lad who clocked around 37 miles of walking this week. I don't appear to be displaying many symptoms apart from occasional chestiness, I'm sweating at night but not soaked or drenched as I've heard night sweats described just my legs are quite damp. I have however moved into a new house and the new room temp might be an adjustment plus the weather (who knows!)

I would greatly appreciate some reassurance

  • Hi SH96, I also know how that feels, I dread going to hospital every three months, I’m sure my head goes into overdrive in case the node has got bigger. My haematologist said it’s quite normal to think like that. When she was examining my neck last week, I said it was a bit tender, she told me that a good sign, not a sign of cancer. I would definitely go back to doctor if you are worried. X

  • Hi hope all ok how you doing

  • Hi, I'm doing ok thanks for asking. My lymphoma did come back six weeks after my treatment finished. Same kind and same places. I've been feeling good and just on watch and wait now, no "B" symptoms to date. I was seeing haematologist every three months but because of COVID I havnt seen her since December. My last appointment got cancelled and didn't get another till October so that will be 10 months since I've seen her. I feel ok and it's been quite nice not to keep going to hospital, I get anxious before my appointment. My own GP has been checking my bloods and has found I've got a low white blood count so they are repeating them every month, just hope that resolves itself as it's not a good sign especially with COVID still around. Hope you are well x
