Lymphoma in 4 year old?

Okay so i don't even know where to begin. Worried about my son. He has had a swollen gland up on the back of his head and his neck for about 5 months and other glands have emerged since, the GP said they werent concerned about the glands unless they had been there for 3 months and then they would act. They started referalls etc but slowly.

He has severe night sweats despite all efforts to make his room cool and to put him in just a vest and shorts, when i take his temperature during a night sweat its normal temperature. He is overly emotional and also more tired than normal making every day tasks a chore to him, even getting changed he now says he can't do. He also has done a complete 180 turn on his appetite, going from eating more than an adult in a day to snacking only. So much so that his trousers fall down as his waist is getting so much smaller.

I keep pushing for answers and get told im worrying about things that are normal. He had bloods done 3 weeks ago to see if he had an infection and it was all clear and nothing wrong at all in his blood out of place. But friday he had more done and they have said he now has low red blood count (anaemic)but nothing else so all his other results were fine even the levels of vitamins are fine which she said was strange.

On Thursday he is booked in for Ultrasounds on his head and neck. Im panicking and so worried as the hospital seem to be very relaxed and telling me it is all normal which i hope it is but its been such a long process and if i hadnt kept taking him back i feel they would just let it slide. Am i losing my mind for worrying it could be lymphoma? Is it all normal??

Sorry for the long post im just losing my mind...

Thanks

  • Hi there ...

O M G ... bless ya ... I'd be climbing the walls ... yes they hopefully are right .. but with all those things , appetite... loosing weight ... lethargic ... etc ... what are they waiting for ... the good thing is those ultrasound on his head and neck should show if something's not right ...

I'd hold on for results, if they are quick .. but I'd deff push for them to find out why ... they are our babies .. don't let them fob you off, untill YOUR sure you know what it was .. can you see a different Dr... let us know how it goes ... x

Fingers crossed your little man will be all good .. Chrissie xx

  • Hoping it is  all good news for you but yes push to get some answers as you can get lymphoma even without secondary symptoms such as shivers and sweats and fatigue. I would urge you keep a symptom diary as 'back up' for when you next see the GP along with any questions.

Be prepared that they might want to do a biopsy of a node too at some point to rule out lymphoma / to diagnose.

Lymphoma is a very treatable disease even in the later stages, I have stage 3s and had no symptoms other than a pain in my groin. Kids are very resilient and will surprise you how strong they are.

I was told it was unlikely I had heamatological malignancy but here I am now!

    Wishing you well

    Rose

  • [@Chriss]‍ thank you for your reply. I have seen multiple doctors as i have had to keep going in to have observations done whilst waiting to see if his lymph nodes went down which they havent. Some doctors would tell me not to worry and others would be absolutely dumbfounded at how he had been left so long.

It doesnt help that when you look at his symptoms as a collective they all point to Lymphoma.

Nightsweats, lethargic, lymph nodes up, appetite loss, and also now having a low red blood count i am losing my patience with doctors. I keep trying to find other reasons these symptoms all could be happening in one go especially with no sign of infection in his blood.

I shall keep you updated. Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this. Or am i just being an over protective parent panicking for no reason.

    Thanks

  • [@Ross2991]‍  thanks for your reply. I am kind of hoping they will want to do a biopsy just so i can have real peace of mind that i know for sure if it is or isnt. I have been documenting everything and even take photos of him during his night sweats to show how sweaty he gets and it shows that he is in just a vest and that his room temperature is either cool or just right according to thermometer in his room.

Sorry to hear you have been diagnosed however grest they got the diagnosis with only one symptom. I shall keep pushing on and keep this forum updated and i really hope you get well soon. ️
