Positive FIT test has led to an urgent referral. Terrified

I am 32 and have suffered from IBS for a number of years. In the last year, since having my daughter, my symptoms have become much worse. I had blood tests last month and did the FIT test. On Friday the GP rang me as my test had come back with an abnormal result. He said they needed to make an urgent referral for a colonoscopy as they were looking for more sinister causes for the blood such as cancer. I'm so worried that I have bowel cancer. I have had a change in bowel habits in the last month and I've googled too much and scared myself. My family are very positive and are trying to make me think positively but I am just so scared.

  • My symptoms are still there if not worse :( honestly tired of seeing blood.

  • Hi everyone I am brand new in here and quite worried right now..

i had blood on my stool about 10 days ago and also having lower back pain for over 2 weeks now

I had fit test and the results came back 17ug/g .

    7am I received a text from

    my gp

Saying that I was referred to hospital for my bleeding

    now waiting and worrried

i am 40 and have 2 young children

how was your test mummy's girl? I hope it was all ok

    xx

  • [@mummys_girl]‍ Do let me know how your appointment went !! Hoping it was nothing and you’re ok!

[@mili]‍ Hey hun, try not to worry that is hardly any blood 17ug is not bad. I had like 200ugh in my stool.

  • Thank you for your thoughts [@Sabr]‍ had my colonoscopy thankfully it's good news! The consultant confirmed that my bleeding is caused by hemoroids. What a relief!

[@mili]‍ You've come to the right forum. I had similar symptoms to you but my blood level was over 200. Within 10 days of my GP appointment, my colonoscopy was all done. Thankfully everything is fine.

I know it so worrying but I'm another example in the chat that it's not what we are dreading. I hope you both get the reassurance you need soon.

Sending positive vibes to you both xxx

  • So happy to hear that!!! I’m so glad you can put this behind you now. Xx

  • Hi I'm fairly new here but I feel like I'm losing my marbles.

I received a postive fit result of 19.8 (I didn't see any blood, I don't think I ever have) and I'm 21 years old, I should also explain that just before the Fit test around a month or so I did a full blood count and everything came back normal, apart from my folic acid levels but my diet wasn't the healthiest (currently on a path to change that) but I wasn't anemic and I have had many, many, many blood tests before this one that all came back normal, about four years just before the pains started I had a CT scan which again came back normal.

My bowel habits haven't really changed I go twice to three times a week but it can vary from normal formed stool to dieahera most of the times being light brown I've had dull pains that jump around to different areas of my stomach for four years now which Doctors were almost certain was IBS, naturally getting a postive fit has sent my anexity rocketing. I have an appointment with a specialist this coming monday.

I should mention the day I did my fit I had dieahera and I did have a spice meal only a few days before, covered in jalapenos which arguably was a regretful descion haha.

Also I wish the best of luck to all of you, I suffer with severe medical anexity so I truly sympathize with everyone here.

  • Hi Sheriff

    welcome to the forum

My Result was 17 and again in this forum I was told that it is not a big number and your one also doesn't sound too big.At the moment I have an phone  appointment with the consultant which is only next week:(

can I ask why did they give you this test?

  • Firstly thank you for the warm welcome!

I was on a juicing diet and I saw red in my BM however I'm 99% sure that red was from Beetroot. However I decided to play it safe so I asked for a test I got tested and it came back positive at 19.8 so a low postive as a Doctor explained to me.

    However...

I've been suffering with slight pains around my abdomen and loose stools (Not dieareha) for four years now so I can't help but be scared haha.

Thankfully with all the bloods I've done I've never once been anemic so that's a postive, the pain isn't agonising its just annoying, I'm 21 and my Fit results are a low positive which is also postive

I just... can't but be terrified of the worst case scenario

If you don't mind me asking why did they ask you to take the Fit test?

    Hi hun

Ive just been catching up on the posts on here. I haven’t been on site because I’ve been ill with covid but I’ve been thinking about you. I can’t imagine how hard the waiting must be for you. It drove me insane and that was just a 4 month wait. Anyway It will soon be December now hun and fingers crossed you will have your beautiful baby and positive news. I know your result is the same as mine at 200, but I’m doing fine (keeping fingers crossed always) and so will you. Sending love, hugs and lots and lots of positive vibes. x

    Hi Guys

Just wishing you all the best. I’ve been where you are and it Is mind numbing worry. This site was fantastic for me (thanks Sabr for all your supportive messages), and if anyone feels I can help them with any information or anything, just message. Big hugs to you all.
