Positive FIT test has led to an urgent referral. Terrified

I am 32 and have suffered from IBS for a number of years. In the last year, since having my daughter, my symptoms have become much worse. I had blood tests last month and did the FIT test. On Friday the GP rang me as my test had come back with an abnormal result. He said they needed to make an urgent referral for a colonoscopy as they were looking for more sinister causes for the blood such as cancer. I'm so worried that I have bowel cancer. I have had a change in bowel habits in the last month and I've googled too much and scared myself. My family are very positive and are trying to make me think positively but I am just so scared.

  • Hi Sheriff

I ve seen blood down there so I called the doctor and he sent me a fit test

i have been waiting for 2 weeks and I have only got a phone appointment for this Thursday

I dont think I have got any other symptoms but I am so worried as all of you

Are you seeing someone in the hospital soon?

Sabr when is your baby Due?

I don't know if it d help but when I was pregnant for 2 of my children I had severe hemoroids and bloods..

Try to keep positive I am trying to keep positive otherwise we cannot move on

on the other side I am also wondering if you see a blood for any reason and you take sample from that your test would be positive or negative

i mean if this test check specific type of blood or just blood?

    does anyone know?

  • [@Kadash]‍ hope you are all healed up from covid and doing well! I’ve trying not to think about the blood and I’m also not looking into the loo as it spikes my anxiety. Due next month but will have to wait till I’m healed up from the birth before they do a colonoscopy.

[@mili]‍ Hiya hope you are well? What are your symptoms? I’m due to have my baby end of next month but I won’t get any test done till end of feb.

  • Hi Sabr

i think you are doing the right thing by not looking back:)

as I know it just makes it worse

sabr I mean I do feel 99.9% that your bleeding is due to pregnancy and hemoroids as it is really common. But still you ll feel much better when you have the colonoscopy. I ll send good vibes for you

I am going mad almost searching my poops every day:

:( not too sure if it is blood or some red food I have been eating but my abnormal test said there was blood.

I haven't had any symptoms when I saw the blood and they gave me the fit test which came abnormal 17ug/g

since 9th November I have been waiting for a call appointment which will take place tomorrow

I started to have developed symptoms for the last one week

loss of apetite , frequent bowel movement, slight lower right side back pain, sometime tummy pain too

but I said I don't know if this is anxiety or real ...

I am also so scared of colonoscopy if I am offered one . Must be so painful:(

    hi kadash I hope

You are feeling much better x

  • [@mili]‍ I’ve had these symptoms well before I was pregnant so more scared cause I know they’re not pregnancy related.

I wouldn’t worry if I was you 17ug is nothing major  could even be spicy food causing it. I think these for test go upto like 1000ug.

  • Hi Sabr

    Thank you for your msg

i was going to write you today also

today a doctor from the hospital called me to say that I will have colonoscopy in 2 weeks from now on

he also said 3 of 100 people with abnormal results came turned out to be a cancer

another thing he said gp s should not give fit test to the people with visible blood as it is clearly going to be resulted as abnormal but since I have been referred they have to do the colonoscopy.
I am feeling a bit better today after having this conversation as I know I have hemoroids and they do bleed

sabr do you have other symptoms? I mean why did they give the the fit test in the first place?if you see blood that often as doctor said fit test doesn't mean anything

i really do feel you and I am really really hoping that we will share our positive outcomes in this forum

  • [@mili]‍ I am so glad they have given you a colonoscopy appointment. I’m also glad you are feeling much better. Do not worry at all, if it’s visable blood that you can see and you hemorrhoids with no other symptoms, then more than likely it’s hemorrhoids!!! Positive thoughts!

my symptoms is dark blood in the stool mixed in, making  my stool look maroon. I also get random pains in my butt. Don’t know what it is. Really hoping and praying it’s notning serious. What scares me is how the blood is presenting itself.

  • Hi Sabr how are you? I have been given a colonoscopy for this Saturday

omg I am so nervous and scared right now also scared of the pain:/

i ll update In here afterwards hopefully positive results

Sabr do you see any doctor on this then? I or midwives..

what do they say to you about it?

2020 has been really hard for every one.

I hope your baby will come with all the positive and good luck for you in the new year xx

  • Hi Sherif how are you? Have you had your colonoscopy yet?

I am waiting for my one but so nervous especially scared of the pain ..
