24 and breast lump

A week or so ago the side of my boob was sore when taking off my bra like an ache. It soon went away however something made me check my breasts (havent done before now) and I felt a small hard lump in the middle of my breast towards the bottom below my nipple. It seems solid and stuck. Anyway my entire boobs feel lumpy so I was unsure if it was actually a lump I was feeling so today I went to the GP and she found it straight away so is sending me a two week referal to the breast cancer clinic. She said its not cancer (how does she know) and that not to panic when they ring as thats where everybody goes to get their breasts checked.

I feel ill with worry. How common is it for a 24 year old? I pray it is nothing but it although small it does feel like a hard lump.

Thanks

  • Hi ScaredYoungAdult

Welcome to the forum and I'm sorry to hear about the health concern that you're dealing with at the moment.

It can be a really worrying time when you're referred to the hospital. It's positive that your GP has arranged for you to get this checked by a specialist. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the appointment.

Your GP will have seen many breast lumps and based her comments on her knowledge and experience. It's important to remember that the vast majority of people who attend breast clinic aren't diagnosed with cancer. I wonder if you might find it helpful to chat to one of our team of nurses for some support and reassurance. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes

  • Thank you. I do also have a swollen lymph node in my armpit on the same side so I'm worried this means the worst. Age is on my side (I would hope)

  • I just wanted to update. I've just had my appointment. The doctor felt the lump and said its under 1cm and feels like a lipoma... sent me for an ultrasound and said if anything looks strange they'll biopsy. Well they couldn't even find the lump on the ultrasound after a look around so i'm discharged.

Thank you for letting me post here. X
