The 2 week referral is for when a GP thinks there is a possibility of cancer and it needs checking quickly to avoid any long delays.  You will be examined at the appointment so, because it's an ENT appointment, I would contact that department ans ask if a bad head cold will cause any problem. It probably won't but it's best to check with them. Hope it all goes well,
