Seeing the GP tomorrow, hope they take me seriously! I'm 24

I've got loads of hard lumpy lymph nodes in my neck groin that have been there for about 3 months and increasing in number over time. The past month or so I've had low grade fevers for a few days at a time and I've been feeling too exhausted to even go and buy food some days let alone get work done.  I'm a medical student myself so I know it's possible it's lymphoma but the thing I'm most worried about is that the GP will just blow me off and not properly look into it! Does anyone have any suggestions for how to make sure they don't just send me home and ask to come back if they're not gone in x weeks? I had to book the appointment 3 weeks in advance, on top of putting off making it for like a month because I was too scared to get seen.

  • Hello

It is unfortunate there might be a wait for your results but be assured that one week versus one day won't make a difference to prognosis either way. Although it doesn't help adding additional time to worry does it!?

As smoore's asked, what was his opinion of your other symptoms? Did you tell him what you think it could be / was it discussed at all?

Hoping things come along speedily and youget the results sooner for your peace of mind.

Additionally, and I don't say this in any way to concern you, but my bloods came back clear. So I would advise you keep a note of symptoms as and when they occur too.

Wishing you well, keep us updated

  • Hi again:) I know, considering I waited 3 weeks for this appointment and put off making it for even longer than that I know it doesn't make much of a difference. I've been feeling really tired and despite sleeping through the whole night, after the blood tests i got home and had like a 4 hour nap!

He didn't say much really regarding symptoms, just said my cervical nodes are quite subtle (as in not very large/easy to find) but the fact I also have hard immovable ones in my groin means he doesn't want to discount anything based on that.  He asked me what I was worried and I said that I want to make sure it's not lymphoma and he didn't disagree that it's a possibility but wanted to rule out a bunch of infectious causes with the blood tests. He also mentioned that even if they come back normal that doesn't mean it isn't and they might need to consider doing a biopsy. He called me again in the evening and said he booked me in to have an ultrasound done on my lymph nodes within 2 weeks and they should call me about making an appointment for it in a few days.

  • Im glad your doctor is doing more tests. Do you have a date for the ultrasound yet?

  • Unfortunately it wasn't possible to get the ultrasound done through a normal referral until november so he just referral me to a specialist through the 2 week wait cancer pathway in the end. So now I'll have to wait to get a call about that in the next few days!

  • Hope you hear soon Kamila! Are you still getting any symptoms, low grade fevers etc?

Im waiting 9 weeks now to see a hematologist, its so frustrating. My doctor said to phone her if I dont get an appt in the next week.

  • Yeah unfortunately I am still quite hot temperature wise (though it doesn't go above 38) and it seems like I'm getting more nodes coming up in my neck under my ears as well. This morning I woke up drenched in sweat too:(

What about you how are you doing?

  • Mine doesnt go above 38 either which the doctor says is good but it still worries me. The other night I fell asleep and woke up hot and sweaty, temp was 37.8. The weird thing is it goes back to normal pretty fast when I wake up.

Sorry you are getting more swollen nodes. Are they tender? I get a random one behind my ear that swells and gets tender for a few days then the tenderness goes away.

Hopefully you hear about your ultrasound this week!

  • Hey, no they're not tender! Just a hard lump. I do get some weird pressure in my right ear that causes a momentary ache randomly but when I press on the nodes they don't feel like anything.

It sounds like you have some weird infection to be honest :( I think it's not typical for cancerous nodes to be going up and down so you can be reassured by that. I'm sure they'll track down the source of it eventually, but I'm surprised they haven't arrange to have an ultrasound for you 'cause that's the easiest way to rule out anything dodgy. They can tell right away if they're just "reactive" nodes due to an infection:)

  • Its being going on three months now so I doubt its an infection :( my bloods are all normal too. I have severe health anxiety and was so convinced it was lymphoma which is why my doctor referred me straight to hematology. She did put it through as a red flag and thought I would be seen in 2 weeks but they downgraded it. If I hear nothing this week I'm going back to her. Its so hard not to be anxious about this. I google constantly too which doesnt help me!

  • Did you find out what this was?
