Update on my daughter

It has been 8 months and my daughter still doesn't have a diagnosis. :(

In Feb she was in hospital with a kidney infection. She was given a CT scan which showed a lesion in her bladder. She was  told they would make an urgent referral to urology.

In June she had a flexible camera inserted into her bladder to look around it. The urologist said that he could see something  the size of a pen knit but he thought this was only the head of it. He  said it could be a urachal cyst, but wasnt sure. So he wanted her to have an M RI scan and a biopsy as they are nasty and can become cancerous.

She waited a number of weeks for the scan and 7 weeks later went in for a biopsy and a good look around her bladder.

That was today and when she came around from the anaesthetic  the surgeon came to tell her they didnt  do a biopsy as the lesion was no longer protruding into her bladder. The MRI scan had shown something outside the bladder. Therefore he was going to liase with his colleagues with a few to doing more tests and possibly exploratory surgery.

My daughter said that if someone could only say it was not cancer then she would be happier to carry on with what ever needed doing but the surgeon couldn't give her any reassurance. He apologised for the length of time it has taken.

I just don't know how she keeps going  despite this hanging over her. Feel like I could cry for her but I know I must stay strong for her. She is a single parent with the most amazing children.

Feel better for offloading. Sorry for the long post x

  • Hi Joanna61,

This sounds like a really tough journey you're both on. It sounds like your daughter is dealing with things very well and I hope it's not too much longer to wait now until you get some answers. I'm sure the doctors are doing all they can and hopefully they're working as quickly as possible to find things out. This kind of uncertainty is always unsettling.

I'm sure you're doing well in supporting her - but as you say it's good to offload as well, and this forum is always a safe space to do just that, to people who understand. So do use it as much as you'd like if you find it helpful.

I hope you're able to find out more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
