Inconclusive FNA thyroid biopsy

Hi all

I'm getting myself in a bit of a state and would really appreciate any advice.

So basically my husband had 2 nodules found by accident when he had an MRI on a neck injury.hr was referred to a ENT doctor who examined him in the doctors words the examination was remarkably normal. He decided to send my husband for FNA which he had in July we were told if we hadn't heard anything in 10 days to speak to our GP. We didn't hear anything so spoke to GP who said the results said no mention of cancer but that the sample was dilluted by blood and that he would ask further questions. We have now in the space of two days received two letters one to see an endocrinologist and one to see the ENT then yesterday we received another one saying that they wanted to do a partial removal and repeat FNA on one. The letter says THY3-a and obviously I've been on Google and now worried myself even more.

I'm so scared an confused...

Thank you Michelle

  • Hi Michelle and welcome to the forum.

I'm glad you followed up when you hadn't heard back although I'm sorry about the worry the referrals are creating.

Many of our members know how scary this stage can be so hopefully you'll gets some support and advice from them soon but if you'd like to talk things through with someone then don't hesitate in giving our cancer nurses a call. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040.

In the meantime, try to stay away from google and keep busy until the day of the first appointment.

    Best wishes to you both,
