there could be a number of reason for the blood, I’m interested in why you are being sent for blood tests and not a colonoscopy. Perhaps you could get in touch with your GP and ask for a referral?

I'm unsure what a colonoscopy entails. My GP tried to look inside my rectum using what I can only describe as a glass cylinder like tool to enable her to look at the wall of my rectal cavity. The appointment was classes as an emergency appointment asy pre-booked appt had been cancelled in error so I'm unsure whether I actually seen a GP or a nurse. 

A few family members have suggested I visit a and e to get blood tests and investigations done sooner but I don't want to take their attention away from people who are genuinely I'll. 

I suppose my question is, are these symptoms fairly normal with common illnesses such as piles or should I be preparing myself for something more sinister? 

I'm not easily scared so do t worry about being honest with me, I'd rather know if I'm paranoid or are rightfully concerned.

Do these symptoms wareent a visit to an urgent care centre or a and e or should I wait another couple of weeks for bloods?

I really don't like taking time or attention away from people who genuinely need help.

forget about other people and concentrate on your needs, we all pay into the NHS so don’t feel you bad about using it. I personally would be worried about the amount of blood loss. Might be worth going to A&E if you don’t have a walk in centre or out of hours doctors. Even if it’s just for a second opinion.

a colonoscopy entails a camera being used to see what’s going on within the rectum/colon. It may be a case of bad piles or polyps within the colon but only a colonoscopy will be able to tell for sure. Im not saying this is sinister but I am saying you have to get this checked out regardless.

Hi there, I was having blood in my poo for 4-5 weeks, lli was convinced it would be piles and that the doctor would laugh at me, but I made an appointment and have bloor and stool tests which all came back clear except I was a little anemic due to losing the blood. As I am only 31 the doctor wasn't overly concerned but when I explained I was going to the toilet about 8-10 times a day, very loose stools she said she would send me for a colon jusy to be on the safe side. I had the colonoscopy a week later (quite painful but please don't let this put you off) I was sedated and had gas and air too which helped. Unfortunately the lady carrying out the colonoscopy advised she had found a tumour and asked to speak to my partner and parents when they picked me up, I had it in my head from that moment I had cancer. A week later I went and met my consultant who was amazing and he advised it was rectal/bowel cancer. I had an operation and luckily for me he managed to do the operation without a stoma bag. I. Currently undergoing chemotherapy now but I just wanted to let you know that no matter how much you may think your wasting the doctors time you aren't, you need to get checked, inwas exactly the same as you but I am so glad I saw the doctor as mine was at stage 3 after only 4 weeks of symptoms.

Thank you so much for your reply. I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis but pleased youve had the tumor removed without the need for a stoma bag. I wish you all the best with your treatment!

Can I ask whether you had any other symptoms? I feel tired all of the time and have developed sciatica ... I can't help wondering whether it's all linked. 

I'll go to my local drop in centre today for a second opinion and see if I can be referred for a colonoscopy.

There can be a few medical reasons why you may have blood in your stools. I would push for scans, examinations and a camera caloscopy. 

I had these symptoms for years and was dismissed. I now have been diagnosed with Chrons disease following a fistula.

Hi, no no others symptoms, I used to have B12 injections a few years ago because I was tired but stopped them as I felt ok. I had no symptoms except the blood, I did lose a bit of weight too but I just put that down to normal day to day things, I was about 8st before all this and after my operation I've gone down to about 7st. Please go and get checked and keep me updated x

I think yours is similar to mine, I just haven't been properly diagnosed. I've had stomach "issues" for 8 years now, started when I went to uni and the doctor advised it was IBS due to stress. So I dealt with it.. later on found I had an sensitivity to gluten, with bread and pasta in particular. 
Ive has various symptoms over the years and at several points have really pushed for answers with doctors and the hospital. 

In 2016 I went through a lot of tests inc White blood count, colonoscopys, endoscopys etc. But nothing solid came back from it so I gave up. 
I've been toying with the idea of going back to the doctor but always put it off cos I feel like it could be a waste of time. 
My symptoms have always stayed the same; dirrahera, constipation, severe cramps, bloating, bright red blood with stool, blood clots with stool, nausea and feeling exhausted/faint after passing stools. 
I also get what I call popping in my stomach, I explained this to the doctor and he had no idea what I was on about. But it's like popcorn is popping in your stomach.. anyone else experience this?

Hi I hope I'm replying to the right post

I'm currently goin thru blood clots and blood in the pan when I go toilet. My tummy also doing the popcorn noise as you put it and I go abit light headed. I went to a and e a couple of months back and all he kept asking me was if I'm constipated. I told him no. He told me it's a burst blood vessel and it will go off! But its come back??

do you have any updates your happy to share about your symptoms? I've suffered from piles/haemorrhoids and fissures you name it for over 10 years and had numerous minor ops but recently and predominantly in the last week I've suffered really bad abdominal pain and going to the loo 5+ times a day however is with a lot of blood and blood clots which I've never had before. I have a colonoscopy scheduled for the 14th jan but wondering what you did/took to help if anything? I'm really struggling with the fatigue side of things and dread the toilet. It doesn't help when I have 3 young children and have things to do. I'm finding myself cancelling on a number of things as I need to be near a loo and in pain from being all swollen and saw down below. 
 

@Sarah88 - is there anything I should be /could be doing ahead of the colonoscopy or even after?
