Colonoscopy biopsies

I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy yesterday. With the endoscopy they found a small hiatus hernia and when it came to the colonoscopy they had found  a tiny hyper-plastic polyp, which was removed. The surgeon said straight away it was hyperplastic and he wasn’t concerned about that, as it’s non cancerous. I have been experiencing a few of flair ups in the last few months and pain on right hand side, and the polyp was removed from left colon however. So I don’t know what the pain is. Anyhow he then took biopsies of my colon, I’m assuming it wasn’t to do with the polyp that was removed. I’m just wondering if anyone has any experiences that they can share, and if anyone knows what the biopsies are for. It didn’t look like he was taking them from the area of the polyp. What would the biopsies show / would If be more for inflammation or bowel diseases?
