lump

Is a lump in the throat something to worry about?

  • If it’s the sensation of a lump in the throat then I had this. It was due to anxiety. I had lots of tests and counselling to help me realise that anxiety was causing the sensation.

  • Hi Chelseajade

is there anything you find that helps? I’ve been getting a this sensation in my throat like a lump but also further down as food goes into my stomach like it’s getting a bit stuck. But it seems the more worried I am the worse it feels :-(

  •  i found counselling helped. I'd have bet a million pound I'd got something stuck but I can assure you it was anxiety. It was when I was on holiday with my partners kids that I realised this. As I was concentrating on looking after them and not concentrating and worrying about myself I felt the lump sensation went away. Now when I get a bit of a tight feeling in my throat I think ah there's my anxiety .. go away and it eventually does. It doesn't affect me at all now but it took me a long time to train my brain to think like that. Ask me anything if you need too xx

  • Thank you so much for replying, I always seem to have something on my mind but triggered  when my daughter got a sick bug. Possibly the thought of it spreading through everyone! But it hasn’t really gone since and now it’s constantly on my mind. I will take your advice and try to crack on wirh other stuff and put it to the back of my mind and see where it goes from there! With Christmas coming up this should be the least of my worries but I guess it all adds up! Thank you again xx

  • Yes try to stay positive. I have always and still suffer with anxiety. Try counselling, it certainly helps me. Anxiety is now part of my  life like headaches etc. It comes and goes. Acceptance is the key and learning to manage it. You will have a wonderful Christmas and it's normal to worry about your poorly daughter. Try to relax. look up breathing exercises, try the app called calm Xx

  • Thank you so much! I’ll try the breathing exercises and let you k ow how I get on and look at the app! Xx

  • Did u ever get it sorted I'm having the same thing I'm so scared xx

  • Please don't worry. It was anxiety all along that was causing the lump sensation in my throat. I was convinced something was in there. I had a camera to see and nothing. I realised it was anxiety when I went away with my partners children. I was concentrating on them and keeping them occupied that I had no time to think about myself or worries etc and over the few days it totally went away. I now get it on the rare occasion but I know it goes away and I accept I suffer from anxiety. I did however go for counselling too and that helped. I now use an app called calm and do the 10 minute meditation everyday xx

  • Yeah I'm thinking mine could be anxiety aswell they gave me antidepressants to take but haven't took them yet as I'm scared to rely on them or have side affects. My anxiety is to far gone for counselling nothing will stop the thoughts in my head. I've had this lump constantly for 3 months now I don't want to eat or do anything I feel like my life's over. How long did it last for u x

  • You need to meditate, relax and take deep breaths. Apparently it's because we breath in a panicky way when anxious. Once I got my head around it , it went immediately. I'm terrible with anxiety but I learn to live with it now. The lumpbfeeling went completely
