Worried???

my mum is 73 and has really low iron and is bleeding from her rectum, the consultant has felt her bowel and said her couldn’t feel anything sinister since then had cancer both ways and they found diverticulitis but not had biopsy results yet they couldn’t fully complete the camera test as she was too tiny. Yesterday she had a ct colonoscopy. The Hospital said the results will be 14 to 17 days surely if this is bowel cancer is this not too long to wait for results. I am really concerned that if it is cancer should the wait be this long for treatment or am I just panicking and worrying unnecessary?

Thanks

A worries Daughter here!!!

  • Hi Maxine.

Welcome to the forum and I'm  really sorry to hear about your Mum's health problems. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned right now.

I know that lots of our members here will agree that waiting for test results can be particularly difficult. The time frame that you've been given sounds typical of that taken for results but I know that doesn't necessarily make the wait any easier for you.

If you think it might help to talk things through with one of our team of nurses then please do give them a call. You can call them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).

Keep in touch Maxine and let us know how your Mum gets on.

    Best wishes,

  • thank you,

im now on holiday and in the background while everything is going on at home for a few weeks. The dr wants to see her Monday to discuss some of the results from the the camera test. Surely it’s not the GP that gives a cancer diagnosis and it’s a trained oncologist consultant from the hospital? When she had the first test done they did find diverticulitis so I was just presuming that’s why the go would speak to her and not about any cancer diagnosis. But I’m no trained consultant.

Thanks for your supportive response it did help as I feel alone even though I have my sister and family around me. X
