Large lump found in left breast

Hi,

I found a large hard lump in my left breast, it moves slightly and isn't painful, I found it on friday evening,  it's now Sunday and I cant het a gp appointment until tomorrow.  I'm starting to get myself worked up and am now fearing the worst.

Breast cancer runs in the family, I'm 43 years old, any advice or support would be welcome.

Thank you

  • Hi sorry you are going through this massive worry.

I haven't had breast cancer, mine was bowel but i have been to my GP's over the years with lumps. Sent within the 2 week wait appointment to breast clinic and after mammograms and ultrasounds have been told they were nothing to worry about. Even gone down to a very small lump by the time my appointment came.

I understand your worry though if breast cancer runs in your family. Insist on an appointment tomorrow or they'll have you waiting for one and if it's anything like my practice you'll be waiting 2 weeks.

Please don't google anything (although I'm probably too late) we all do and wish we hadn't.

Hopefully it won't be anything bad. Good luck.

  • Hi

Thank you for your reply, the waiting is just awful, I will be ringing my doctors first thing tomorrow,  my stepfather had esophagus cancer, which was terminal, he passed away a few years ago, so I don't want to worry my family with this unless I really need to, my nan had breast cancer many years ago, she had surgery, and is still around today at a grand old age of 87, this is just an awful situation to be in, you never think that this will happen to you, ( i know i haven't been diagnosed, just the whole cancer scare thing)

I'm sorry to hear you had bowel cancer, how are you now?

  • My journey started almost 5 years ago, when I was first diagnosed 3 days before Christmas, massive shock. After surgery I went 3 years and started having problems again and was diagnosed again last year. Again had more surgery followed by chemo just to be on the safe side. My Ct and camera test 2 months ago were fine.

I have to say though, since being a cancer patient and getting to know many people like myself who have all been through different cancers, lot's and lot's have come through treatment and are survivors.

Hopefully for you in a months time, you will have been checked and discharged. We all think the worst at times like this.

I agree with you not telling many people, silly to worry them if it's nothing. I've had a few scares and I only tell my husband. Almost everytime it's a false alarm but once you've been through it, you get scared with every little ache and pain.

  • Hi

I'm pleased for you that your last tests were good I'm like you, and have only told my husband, it's probably nothing, I need to think positively and stop upsetting myself before I actually know what it is, contunually feeling the lump myself isn't going to diagnose it! I'll see what the gp says tomorrow.

I'll keep you updated good or bad,

    Take care

  • I totally get how you are feeling.

We go into that consultants room and we think, we can either come out of here on top of the world or absolutely devastated.

Try and keep busy for the next couple of weeks, gives you less time to think and let your mind run away with itself. x

  • Hi,

I hope you are well I've seen my gp this morning, she was running late (20 mins) which didn't help my anxiety,  eventually got examined, she said it doesn't feel like a cyst or a fatty lump, obviously I'm still not ruling these out until I'm checked over at the breast clinic

Waiting now for my appointment,  could be anything upto 2 weeks, brilliant!  X

  • Never straight forward is it!

At least you got in today and set the ball rolling.

I know it's hard but try and stay positive. Two weeks is a long time when you are anxious but there's nothing we can do about that.

Let me know how you go x

  • Hi,

I hope you are well, just letting you know that I have my appointment,  it's on Monday, cant come quick enough! Soon it will all hopefully be over and be good news xx

  • O that's good.

    I'll be thinking of you.

Hope it's good news, let me know. I'm ok thankyou

  • I will be thinking of u had my appt Thursday and like u was told it didnt feel like cyst but had positive feedback and had lots of fluid drained from aroubd the lump waiting for the call with good news x
