CA125 rising but clear scan and discharged

Hi all,

I went to the gp in March because my periods had been increasing in length from 10 days to 12 days to 3 weeks and eventually I was bleeding for four weeks with just a few days break before my next bleed started. My gp tested my ca125 and it was slightly raised (37) she sent me for an ultrasound and it was clear. I then had another ca125 and it was 43 they did a hysteroscopy and that was clear. Another ca125 and it’s now up to 51, but the gynae has said that as the scan is clear it’s not a gynae issue and has referred me back to my gp for next steps. I’m so worried about why it’s rising and also worried that if there’s a tumour elsewhere all of this  time is obviously of the essence. Does anyone have experience of rising ca125 that turned out to be benign? Or any relating experience/ advice on what to do?

Thanks

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community ELMF although I'm sorry for the reason you're joining us.

Rising ca125 levels are quite a common talking point here on the forum so hopefully some of our members who have been in this situation will share their experiences with you soon but do feel free to join in on any similar discussions you find using the 'search forum' option in the blue bar above.

Fingers crossed you will get some answers soon ELMF.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi I just wondered how you're getting on? Did you have any further tests or get any more answers? Is your CA125 still increasing? Mine were raised, but my scan was clear so they're re-testing the levels next week and I'm waiting to see what they are going to do about my tummy problems x

  • Hi would you mind sharing how you ended up? I'm worried sick with risking ca125 levels :( xxx

  • Hi, I'm so sorry to hear you're going through an anxious time. I don't have much to tell you other than my male GP was useless. He was happy that the ultrasound and hysteroscopy were clear. There was nothing visible to biopsy. He told me that "women just bleed and I need to get used to it" Eventually the bleeding stopped and my periods became very regular, I didn't have another CA125 test again. If it's any reassurance I also just gave birth to my third child. I've read that raised CA125 can also be caused by inflammation such as endometriosis and I've always suspected that's what I have as I have extremely painful periods.
I hope you get positive answers very soon.

  • Do you mind me asking what you CA level was? Thank you so much for replying! So the ca125 test was actually done by my gp so give me reassurance ‍♀️ first done on the 17th of April, level was 70, repeated yesterday and level increased to 82. I had an altrasound which was clear and haven't been offered the hysterscopy that you had. I feel like going private and paying for an MRI but it's a lot of money when I'm meant to be taking my two daughters to Florida's next month I'm 31 but being this age means nothing because cancer is ignorant to age as we know. I do have PCOS. I had a laparoscopy done 10 years ago for endo which was clear. I suppose I'm worried it small, growing and being missed by consultants. Xx
