Histology results

I had an 8.5cm cyst on my ovary which showed signs of pre cancer. On the 19th August my consultant removed both ovaries along with said cyst. This was sent off to Pathology to determine if it was benign or malignant.

I was told the results would take up to two weeks,  yet I am still waiting nearly three weeks on.  I have tried calling his secretary and left two messages as always goes to voicemail but as yet have recieved no reply.

Can I ask if they are concerned could histology take longer thsn two weeks or should I have heard back by now?

I an getting quite anxious as feel the longer I wait the riskier my results are as they may have found something

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks

  • Welcome to the forum Debemdean although I'm sorry to read about the frustrating situation you currently find yourself in.

As our members have found out, some departments have a backlog of results to work through so if this turns out to be the case for you it will unfortunately cause a delay for you getting yours back but fingers crossed it won't be too much longer until you get them.

The wait is always tough but if you can stay busy and distract yourself it will help make this time slightly more manageable.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Debemdean

I has a hysterectomy on 21st August and I am still waiting on pathology of masses on my ovaries. My son rang after 2 weeks and was told there was a backlog. I like you have tried to analyse whether mine have taken longer because there is more wrong, all the usual scenarios. At the end of the day, unfortunately we just have to sit it out. I hope you get good news.

  • Hi C,

    Frustrating I know!

I managed to liaise with my consultant today who informed me he was away last week but will be chasing up my results.

Fingers crossed they come soon with good news and the same for you

  • Hi D

I think that is the problem, we are in peak holiday season.
