Womb/uterine cancer

Hi everyone,

I am so worried about my mum. She has been experiencing constant bloating of her tummy since May.  We recently had an ultrasound and everything looked fine apart from a thickening of her endometrial lining, it was 9mm and as she is post menopause it should have been 5mm or under.

She was referred urgently to a gynaecologist, who did another transvaginal ultrasound and an examination. He found a polyp as well as the thickening. He has scheduled her for a hysteroscopy to remove the polyp and test the cells.  We are so worried it is cancer, I am even more worried given the bloating as I keep worrying it has spread to the bowel and that’s why she is bloated :,( She has had no bleeding, and her only symptom prompting the initial tests was the bloating.  I lost my dad to cancer nearly 4 years ago and I am so scared it’s happening again.

  • My mum seems to be in a similar situation.  Although my concern is that she is not talking to us about what is happening and is down playing everything.

She has had a CT scan this week following an MRI.  She has experienced bleeding but my biggest concern is that i have found out today that at one of her previous appointments a Mcmillan nurse was in attendance.

I am trying to find out if they would attend an appointment before a diagnosis has been made?

I hope your mum feels well soon.

  • Hi Emma, sorry to hear your mum is going through similar, it must be so hard that she isn’t really giving you the full facts :(

From my reading on this type of cancer it seems there are a lot of tests to even reach a affirmative diagnosis, mum has so far had 2 ultrasounds, a biopsy and now waiting for a polyp removal and hysteroscopy scheduled for just over a week.

Sending a hug to you xx
