Waiting for biopsy results on left breast calcifications.

Hello all,

 I am new here. I am 54 and I’m in shock after having a routine mammogram and being recalled. Calcifications were spotted on the first mammogram, so yesterday I had a core biopsy taken. It was very traumatic and painful as the anaesthetic hadn’t taken effect when the first two samples were taken. More anaesthetic was administered and finally it was numb when the rest of the samples were taken. So now I’m playing the waiting game.... I haven’t told any of my immediate family as I don’t want to worry them, only my partner knows. He came with me and I was very grateful to have him there but he wasn’t very sympathetic about the anaesthetic mistake. I still feel tearful about it now. I don’t want to talk about it with him as he’s survived having  oesophageal cancer, and what I am going through is nothing in comparison. Everyone at the hospital was great and the doctor seemed positive that if it is anything it’ll be totally treatable but I am still worried. I’m so grateful for the NHS and also this forum, I have read some of your amazing stories. You are an inspiration.

    having had biopsies I can’t imagine how painful it would be if the anaesthetic didn’t work so you have every right to moan about it as it can be very traumatic even with the anaesthetic. Do try and open up a bit more and talk about it, their should be no hierarchy when it comes to this sort of thing and I’m sure you were there for your husband so no reason why he shouldn’t be there for you.

    im sure they explained that the calcifications could be DCIS and is not only 100% treatable but also 100% survivable.

    fingers crossed yours comes back normal. Let us know how you get on. x

     Thank you for your understanding, and kind words. I’m not very good at opening up, and don’t like to cause others worry but you’re right, maybe I’ll talk to one of my sisters. Yes they did explain that it could be DCIS and it’s 100% survivable. I just haven’t had time to process all the information, it’s all whirling around in my head. I will let you know the results of the biopsy. Thanks once again,

    Hi Gin

    really glad you’ve decided to open up, I found the whole process an isolating experience even when I have family and friends to support me - as they’ve not been through it. This forum has went a long way in helping me and the BC ladies on here are second to none. 

    its only naturally that things will be ‘whirling around in your head’  if you had to read some of my earlier posts you can see I was in a bit of a state :D but things calmed down once I knew what I was dealing with.
