Possible endometrial cancer

I’m post menopausal, on HRT and have been having blood stained discharge and lower abdo pain for about a month. GP suspects possible endometrial cancer but she did find a polyp on my cervix and said I might have them inside my uterus. I’ve got an appointment next week at the hospital and I wondered what to expect. I’m thinking they’ll do scans but are they likely to do hystroscopy at a first appointment? Also if I need to have polyps removed from my uterus could I request a hysterectomy instead?

Welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with this health concern.

I'm afraid I'm not able to offer much insight into what may or may not happen at your appointment next week. A hysteroscopy is usually carried out as an outpatient or daycase basis. I'm presuming that your appointment next week is a clinic appointment to see a gynaecologist and so I'm guessing that a hystroscopy would be unlikely but that is only an assumption on my part.

You could give the hospital or consultant secretary a call to see if they are able to give you more information about your appointment.

In terms of requesting a hysterectomy, that's something to discuss with the consultant once your tests have been completed and you have a fuller picture about what is happening.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses then you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
