Hi everyone. I am a 26 year old female, 5'6 and 63kg.Basically around 2 months ago I ended up in hospital for something completely unrlunreland had a blood test which showed I had mucrocymic hypochromic iron deficiency anemia. I had never been anemic in the past and my last blood test in November 2018 had shown hemagloblin of 135, 2 months ago this had dropped to 85 without much of an explanation. My periods have not been any heavier, infact I would say they have probably gotten lighter. My diet hasn't changed and neither has my weight. I do have unpredictable bowel movements alternating between constipation and oftwn multiole stools in one day (sometimes it can be up to 7 or 8) but I've had issues somewhat with this for years, I did suffer from anorexia a few years ago and since then my movements have always been a bit off. But I do think the issue has gotten worse, I never really seem to have solid large stools anymore (I'm really sorry for all the tmi!).
I was prescribed iron pills (ferrous sulphate) to take three times a day, I did not take them as often as I should have at first but did try, my hg went up to 94 but my serum iron below 3, my gp told me my iron levels where pretty much non existent and they couldn't find any. My hematocrit and mcv where both also much lowrl than they should have been (sorry I don't have the exact figures on me now!) and my platelets where high at 475 I beleive
I had another test two weeks ago, this time around I have been taking the pills 3 times a day and things have improved but I'm still definitely anemic and iron deficient. My platelets where down to 375. My neautrophils have dropped slightly below normal too.
I do not have pain in my bowels and haven't noticed blood but I am worried that something sinister has been causing this. I am supposed to be have a referral for a colonoscopy but it seems to be taking forever and I can't stop worrying.
If any one could give me any advice I'd super greatful
