Scared of stomach cancer

Hi all, thank you for welcoming me to this forum. I am just so scared right now. I am currently waiting results from endoscopy biopsy, CT scan and ultrasound. I am convinced I have advanced stomach cancer Just to give you a bit of my history, I was diagnosed with IBS 12 years ago. Since that time my symptoms changed to more diarreah. Was referred to gastrologist at one stage as had lots of wind, stomach churning etc , they did scans on both intestines and they were fine so assumed IBS. Then about 4 years ago, I felt food stick in my throat. Endoscopy showed severe oesophagitis with no cause but it cleared by with omeprazole which I have been on ever since. Fast forward a bit and I have since had my gallbladder out due to large gallstone and then last year pancreatitis with no cause. My symptoms got better after then worse, back and forth to GP. loads of blood tests , ovarian cancer, pancreatitis all clear.

Then I had worse urgent direaher and random horrible stomach pains. My endoscopy shoes bile gastritis no obvious cause ( awaiting biopsies). Last few days I have felt awful. My whole stomach is swollen, I have severe nausea on and off in my upper

Abdomen , stomach pains, diarrhea, sometime yellow sometimes very dark, churning no appetite and fullness. My last blood tests done 2 weeks ago were fine apart from anemia. I am scared that these  latest symptoms  have come on so  quickly that it is something advanced.

My question is prior to these latest tests , I last had an MRI in January to check on my pancreas, would this have looked at my stomach as well. Also, I know anemia can be a sign but apart from that all other blood tests have been fine. I am aware that all this points to stomach cancer but I wondered how likely it is that this is advanced?

Thank you

  • Hi Anon.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Did you happen to find out what was causing all these symptoms? I could have written the exact same thing I have all the same symptoms and I am awaiting an endoscopy. I have lost a stone in 4 weeks, no appetite, heart-stomach palpitations, sharp pains at top of stomach radiating to the back. I'm terrified it's something serious as I've had issues with my stomach for years. I have GERD and inflammation of the stomach lining.

    Any advice would be appreciated

  • Hi there,

I am sorry for what you are going through, it is horrendous I know. In answer to your question, i was literally tested for everything, every scan under the sun, colonoscopy and endoscopy - the only things they found was the bile on my stomach, bile and acid reflux and then concluded i was having bouts of bile gastritis so basically  inflammation. Honestly, though the symptons were so severe i couldn't believe it was nothing more serious. Sure enough, although it took a good while, my symptoms did go, although ive always got the reflux. I do get flare ups sometimes, i had a bad one at the beginning of covid and because the main symptom was intense burning all across my chest and shoulders i convinced myself i had got covid and it had gone into my lungs. It was weird as that time i had no stomach burning but it was still the gastritis that was causing it.

I do feel for you because at the time there definitely seems no end to it and the symptoms are so awful it is very hard to be convinced its not something more serious but it just shows you that it absolutely doesnt need to be the worst and your symptons sound very similar to mine. Just make sure you have all the scans etc, just in case  i was also  checked for ovarian cancer, its definitely best to rule all the nasty stuff out. Hope all goes well with your endoscopy and colonoscopy, let me know how you get on and let me me if you just want to chat anytime. I got a lot of support on here when i was up night after night of not sleeping due to the pain, palpitations and burning. Take care, Chris

  • Thank you Anon278. Everything you have described up there is me to a T. The biggest issue I have is trying to keep myself from looking on Doctor Google.

I'm currently getting my ovaries checked due to Addisons and awaiting an ultrasound. I've had quite a few bloods checked as well on these as well as testing for celiac. I literally feel as if every part of me is breaking down. I try and be logical and say it's most likely GERD flaring up or ulcer but the weight loss and lack of appetite is concerning me the most as is the random stomach palpitations-flips.

I hope you're doing okay now? It hard having flare ups and it can really knock you for 6. I also appreciate your reply. It is good to know people have similar symptoms and its not just me alone on a wee boat. Xx
