Waiting on mole biopsy results

Hi,

just wondering if anyone else has come across this before, I had two moles removed in January which turned out to be severely dysplastic nevi. I've had another mole removed on the 19th August and when I was there the doctor made an appointment for two weeks later and said she might have the results. Last time it was over a month before they had the results. So I'm not quite sure what the follow up appointment is for if they might not have to results

Thanks
Charlotte

  • Hello Charlotte,

I hope you will hear from others who have had a similar experience. I've added the word 'mole' to your title as this will increase the chances of your post being picked up by someone who knows about your particular situation.

If you are worried about it and want to know what this follow up appointment is for, it might be worth giving your doctor/specialist a call and asking them whether this is common practice and whether it is likely that the results will have come through by the time of your appointment. I am sure they will be able to give you an indication as to the timeframe for results or tell you more about this follow up appointment.

Best of luck for your appointment! I hope it all goes well for you Charlotte

  • Hi Charlotte,

It may well be that your consultant has asked for the results to be done quicker because of your previous diagnosis earlier in the year. There is no reason for them to see you in two weeks time if they aren't confident they will have the results as there is nothing they can do or say without the results. Don't be surprised though if they contact you just before the appointment & give you a later date because they haven't received them as quickly as they'd hoped! Good luck and I hope they are clear, or it's another dysplastic mole (which is common when someone has had other dysplastics removed). Please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (melanoma patient)
