raised CA125 levels raised

Hi,

im hoping for a little advice or reassurance.

Im 35 and I have PCOS 11 years ago I was undergoing fertility treatment and I had a benign terratoma removed from my right ovary- it was 5cm I think and some endometriosis.
Last week I went back to the GP for pain in my left hand side that I thought was PCOS. He sent me for a ultrasound.
The ultra sound showed everything was fine on the left but there was a mass on the right ovary again.
The GP said he thought the terratoma had probably grown back agin and sent me for blood tests just incase.
Today I got my results- the 2 hormones that they had tested for were fine (im not sure what they were through) but my CA125 was raised to 47.
Should I be as worried as I am? I have no symptoms other than painful ovulation on the left side, I was on my period when they took the blood test.
The GP is too busy to talk to me or see me so I only had my results from the receptionist when I rang up this afternoon. The receptionist said I was being refered to the gynaecologist but she had no idea how long it would take

  • Hello Sparrow35,

Sorry to hear that you're dealing with an on going health cocern.

Given that something has shown up on the ultrasound and your CA125 result was slightly raised, it sounds sensible that the GP has referred you to the gynaecology department although I'm sure that it would probably help you if the GP was able to explain the reasons behind their decision to refer.

A raised CA125 level doesn't necessarily mean that you have cancer, as it can also be caused by less serious things such as endometriosis, fibroids and even pregnancy.

I hope that you're able to make an appointment to see or speak to the GP about your referral and that they're able to put your mind at ease.

    Best wishes,
