Thyroid nodule

Hi,

I'm 42, mum of 2, wife of 1. A year ago I discovered a lump on my neck and was referred for ultrasound. It was deemed normal however they found a 1.2cm nodule on thyroid. I was kept under review and had two more ultrasounds where is went to 1.5 and then 2cm. I then saw a consultant who said everything looked fine and he would see me in 9 months (which is next Thursday) and even if it was cancer I would be fine as it would be curable!!). Then I asked about a needle biopsy and he said he would decide when he saw me again. I had us last week and person doing it said it looked similar. Should I push for a needle biopsy? I'm so worried I don't think I could wait another 9 months as a wait and see! Thank you for any advice x

  • Hi T1977,

Welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to hear about this health concern that you've been dealing with.

It's understandable given that you've had this lump for a year that you're feeling nervous about your appointment next week and what the consultant may or may not decide to do.

Maybe at your appointment tell your Dr how this worry has impacted on your life over the past 9 months. Ask him what are the pros and cons of having an FNA (needle biopsy) now at this point. Have a think about the kind of questions you'd like answers for and write them down to take to your appointment. If you'd like to chat things through with our team of nruses beforehand then do give them a call. They're available on Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

There are also lots of posts about thyroid nodules on the forum - you can find and join in on these by using the 'search forum' option in the blue bar above - hopefully some of those members will pick up on your post and share their experiences.

I hope that your appointment goes well. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
