Daily bloating for nearly 6 months

Hi

I'm a 53-year-old male and been having bloating issues for the last 6 months.

I have had an ultrasound scan and also a CT scan of the abdomen and pelvic area with no issues and nothing to report and all organs came back clear

Would a CT scan show up anything bad or can it miss something as the bloating is sometimes bad and the last 6 months of my life have been painful

I have been to the doctors but keep fobbing me off with medication for IBS

Any help appreciated

  • Hi david2390,

I'm sorry to read about the issues you've been experiencing recenrly. I'm glad to hear you've had some tests to find out more - try to trust the results of these and I'm sure the doctors will have done what they needed to do to give them - and you - the necessary information.

If your medication doesn't help, and you continue to experience problems, you can always revisit your doctor - as it's of course important that you're able to find some relief from these symptoms, as well as answers as to what might be causing them.

If you have any questions for our nurses, such as what it is the tests pick up, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-to-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi there - my goodness I can empathise with you on this. I'd suffered the same things for some time & some other symptoms too. I finally went to see my GP & was sent for all kinds of tests & all came back clear. My GP thought I was likely suffering from IBS caused by anxiety/depression & gave me anti depressants. Since I started taking them + some meds for the bloating I have started to feel better. I think the meds for the bloating were brilliant because it made my life an absolute misery. I can't say I'm finally ok - some days up some down but definitely better than I was a few months ago.

I've no idea of course whether you are anxious/depressed (altho' feeling as youdo creates anxiety) but it might be worth talking this thro' with your GP. IBS really isn't nice & many doctors think it is caused by factors based on the brain - i.e. the brain-bowel axis.

Hope this might help you a bit. Take care & good luck. x

  • Hi

    Thanks for replying

The only test I'm waiting to get booked in for is the camera up the bum and have to say I'm not looking forward to that :)

I have had all blood, ultrasound and CT scan and all clear and my doctor is sure I'm suffering from IBS

I'm ok first thing in the morning and gets worse as the day goes on and also when I eat and the bloating is painfull and causing lower pain near the belly button right side and also right side back and hip.

Yes I'm under a great deal of stress and might be a case of IBS

  • Hi David2390,

I have been having very similar symptoms to what you described back in 2019, so I wanted to see if all your tests showed up anything in the end, or if it did turn out to be IBS?

    Regards

    Alan

  • I have exactly the same.  All tests clear.  Bloating and pain
