Ultrasound scan - worried.. more tests to come

So I went for an ultrasound scan about three weeks ago, the gel on belly, full bladder one then straight after the wand inside vagina one. The sonographer told me she could see "something" but wanted me to have a period as it may disappear with that. So I had my period, went for re-scan yesterday same two procedures and she said after I had dressed "I will send this report to your GP" so I asked her if the same was showing and she said yes it is and I will need more tests.

I am at my absolute wits' end.  I have had clear smears although I did have to have cryosurgery about 7 years or so ago as I bled whilst having sex.  I haven't had sex for yonks because it is so uncomfortable but I get no bleeding between periods or any unusual discharge.  I do have an almost constant nagging (I wouldn't say pain) but it is a niggle lower right groin area towards hip bone.  I was getting leg pain - that seems to be off and on..

So what I am asking is could this be cancer? My letter from my GP after my first scan says "the womb area is normal, as are the ovaries. However there have seen an area in your cervix which my possibly shown an area of bleeding".  Or could it be something else? Could fibroids or something else cause these symptoms? I also have problems emptying my bladder although I have no pain but like yesterday when I had to drink 2 pints of water before my scan when I went to pee afterwards only a small amount came out.  I feel like I have emptied my bladder fully but then 10 minutes later I feel like I need to pee again.

I am 47, no children, not overweight, started periods at 10, been on pill 30 years but have just come off (Rigevidon last 5 years or so).

Sorry for waffling.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you x

  • Hello Rammsteinqueen,

I'm sorry to hear that  you're stuck in the awful period of limbo of knowing there's something potentiialy wrong but not what that might be. It can be a particularly difficult time and it's natural to think of all possible outcomes.

Presumably your GP has requested further tests or has referred you to a gynaecologist for an opinion? It's positive that the sonographer reported your womb and ovaries are showing as normal. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for further investigations into this possible area of concern.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Jenn, many thanks for replying to me - I really appreciate it.

In my GP's letter to me she asked me to make an appointment to see her to catch up which I have done but cannot get to see her until 27 August but she also put "rest assured, I will be chasing up the result of the second scan and will get in contact with you even if you have not booked in for an appointment".  I think she will call or write to me before then though as the Sonographer told me that she will be advising for more tests to be done.  x
