Mouth/Throat Cancer

Hi

Im new to forum but need advice please? Had breast cancer 2011, now have pain/tenderness in left submandibular gland in mouth for last two months. Hurts to talk and swallow intermittently.  Had scope and been diagnosed with Silent reflux (acid even up into nasal passage!) which consultant says can cause this pain. Due to have MRI of neck to rule anything sinister out. Im not sure though due to it only on one side. Does anyone know if a neck MRI will scan the submandibular gland at the bottom of the jaw? or anyone else had a similar issue of pain in one side only which led to a diagnosis of cancer?

  • Hi ffx2,

Welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to hear about the problem that has led you here.

It sounds as if your Consultant is being thorough in ordering an MRI to rule out anything sinister. I'm not sure how much of your neck will be included in the scan but I'm sure that the scan technician will be able to confirm an answer to your question.

I hope that the team are looking at addressing your reflux issue and any other problems that that may be causing. Hopefully it will settle soon.

If you'd like to speak to one of our team of nurses about your concerns then do give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
