So...I might have cancer

And really not sure what to do now.

I had a colonoscopy this morning and clearly red flags raised as I’ve been booked in for ct scan and mri this week. I was given a copy of the results and advised that polyps had been found and sent for tests. Having reviewed the documents in more detail at home the words 200mm tumour jumped out.

Trying not to worry, but clearly they have found something and I’m not sure how to cope with the wait until the consultant meeting in a few weeks time. Already sensing sleepless nights and not really anyone I can talk to and suddenly feeling very alone. Thought seeing it in black and white might help me get my head round it all.

  • Hi Delious, I have metastatic lung cancer, however I ended up in hospital for something else. I had to have a colonoscopy too, now obviously with having been already diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer, when they found some polyps in me, I was told I had to have another test much more intensive. Only because they felt. With me already having been diagnosed with cancer. It was a higher chance that the polyps would be cancerous. I was a bit of a rush job because of already having cancer. I just adapted a attitude whatever it is I can’t change it, so I did push it to the back imif my mind. I had to have something, can’t remember the name all I can remember it was a weird name similar to a sygmoid, something it goes from one end of the Colon to the other, and I do mean all the way. I will not lie but it’s more likely to pick cancer up than other types of procedures. I will not lie about it being painful. I had polyps removed, and after the sygmoid thing test fortunately every thing was cancer free. I do know what you mean about seeing it in black abc white it can be scary. I know it’s easier said than done, with having terminal lung cancer, and feeling so ill I don’t come on here, until late or even leave it till every other day, but I do get emails if anyone has replied or anything. So. All I can say, is they had to put certain things in information sheets and books let’s  if they find polyps or anything m. If you want to chat send or reply to this one I am sharing with you know, ok ps I do mean it for you to ask me anything, just press reply now if you want to ask more ok Delious xxx Marj

  •  Hi Marj

many thanks for your message. Having had a terrible nights sleep and feeling exhausted attending the ct today was difficult. Constantly looking for clues from the radiographer and reading far too much into each and every expression. Dreading the next two weeks waiting and constantly thinking the worst. I know trying to keep to a routine and put to the back of my mind would be best, but tough when you’re on your own. It is really reassuring to hear how others have approached things and the outcomes.

Im usually the strong, independent one, but hard to admit I am really struggling with this one. It’s all feeling rather self indulgent at the moment and I dont think it’s helping.

sorry for the rant, it’s good to have an outlet.
