14 year old daughter melanoma

I took my 14 year old daughter to dermatologist this morning with a worrying mole. The dermatologist told me that she’s pretty sure it’s melanoma and would normally get it removed for biopsy straight away however they have staff off sick so we have to wait 8 days before she can get it removed. Should I worry??

  • Hi,

I'm sorry that your daughter may be looking at a diagnosis of melanoma  and that it's a worrying time for you. Please be assured though that a wait of 8 days will make little or no difference to the melanoma progressing. They sound to be getting your daughter treated as soon as possible due to her youth - most mole removals are done about 2 to 3 weeks after the dermatology appointment. I hope the biopsy results show that the dermatologist is wrong (it happens sometimes as only a biopsy can 100% confirm a melanoma diagnosis). Good luck and please let us know how your daughter gets on. We are here for you,

    Angie (melanoma patient)
