Waiting for blood results

Hi,

I am new to this site so apologies if this has been discussed previously.

So for months I have had a lump on side of my neck on left side. At first I thought nothing to it as I thought probably just swollen glad due to a previous cold I had recently had at the time (this was probably around January/ February).. anyway as I dont really pay too much notice to my neck, I just didn't really notice it much.

The other day I was scratching my neck and felt the lump again but this time feels slightly larger. I have not been unwell either for a long time, so was concerned as I know it cant be due to being unwell from an infection. I managed to get a doctors appointment on the same day and went to see him.

He felt both sides of my neck, looked down my throat and asked several questions.  He concurred that it is only on one side and asked about other symptoms. Now I've not been unwell as I said, but for months now I've been  really itchy but no rashes or skin reactions to anything and over past few weeks this has become a huge interference in my life.. the itching is constant and driving my crazy and all over my body including my hands and head really intensely.

Whilst there he asked about any other lumps but I have  struggled checking my breasts due to augmentation 8years ago. That being said today I've managed to check and felt a small lump on underside of my left breast (which previously I had a very large benign mole removed from 2yrs ago) and that breast feels quite tender and sore at the site of the lump (just below nipple).. I'm not sure if connected or not from the swollen lymph node in my neck but is quite coincidental really as on same side of body. Doctor is unaware of this new development as only noticed today and I felt I may as well wait until bloods are back this week?

He got me in with the nurse for a load of bloods to be done that very morning.

I am now anxiously waiting for my results and cant think of anything but this.

Has anyone else had a similar scenario/ symptoms? What was your outcome and next steps?

Should I call GP about my breast before my results from blood work?

I am petrified of what could happen.

Thank you.

Jai

  • Hallo jai... I found this site this morning because, like you, i am awaiting results and am worried sick.  I think you should contact the doctor with your new symptoms....only he can know what to make of it and they need as much information as possible to make a proper diagnosis. It is natural to think the worst and it can make you feel frightened, lonely and out of control of your life....... But at the end of the day we have to accept what life throws at us and be brave. I have heard so many times that once a person has a cancer diagnosis something steps in and they get an inner strength and clarity. There is no reason for it to be any different for us! Waiting for results make us feel isolated, lonely, panicky and frightened. I wish you good luck with everything ... I think you should telephone your gp today... He needs to know any other symptoms you have..... A big hug.. Annie

  • Hi Annie,

I am sorry to hear you are also in this situation too. I really hope your results come back clear. Do you have long to wait now?

Thank you for your advice, I think I will phone up at 8am when the surgery opens.

I generally am a person who just takes things on the chin, I have been dealt more than fair share of rubbish cards but I have always been able to look at things with a good outlook. I think what frightens me is my children are only young and my youngest has special needs so really worried about them.

Like you said I need to ring up the GP and tell him and face whatever the outcome is head on.

I really hope you get a good result, huge hugs and wishing you lots of luck.

    Jai xx

  • Hallo jai.. Well done for contacting the gp. Like you i have had to face quite a bit head on... The same for most of us i guess.. I am going to phone my consultant's secretary to try and get an appointment sorted so i can hear what the results are. I have paid privately for all the tests because the nhs were dragging their feet. I had an ultrasound that showed something in my uterus and one kidney. They then asked for a ct scan which i had last friday. This process has taken 3 weeks so i have been on edge for some time.. A large part of me now wants to know... But the other part wants to hide away and pretend nothing is happening. I cry in private... My husband is not good at talking about things and is embarrassed by the whole thing. I don't want to bore my friends.... So this is a wonderful site for folk like us! I understand your anxiety re your children.... But something we should remember.... More people recover from cancer than die from it. Treatments have come on in leaps and bounds! And of course it could be that we don't have cancer... And that we have something else that is perfectly, simply treatable... The sun is shining, let us turn this around to being a positive day! If our results aren't good there will be time enough for tears... But there is a huge chance your results will be good. In the meantime, let us send warm thiughts to everyone else on this site... And all those in the world with the same fears as us.. Anniexxxxx
